What if sleeping on your side ruins your eyesight?

Hey habr! I apologize in advance that this post does not quite correspond to the topic of habr, however, maintaining vision and eye health is an important parameter for IT people, with an already high load on the eyes.

I am writing this post because more than 10 years ago I wrote an article on Habré “Very fast and effective way to relax the eyes“- since then and to this day, I continue to use this technique, still consider it effective and still experiment with different techniques.

So, the essence of the situation that inspired this post: I still have good eyesight, my right eye sees 100%, but my left eye has become a little worse over the past 3 years. My wife also had perfect vision all her life, but in the last 3 years it began to fall in her right eye. Both I and she are right-handed. But what coincides is that I sleep mostly on my left side, and my wife on my right.

This observation led to the idea that sleeping on your side (more precisely, a pillow that slightly presses on the eye) negatively affects vision. The pressure of the pillow is insignificant, but uneven and quite long. Hence the assumption was born that this pressure causes astigmatism.

This post was created for the sake of a survey to find a correlation (or lack of it) between sleeping on your side and vision. If it exists, it’s great that we’ll find it. If not, I apologize for wasting your time.
