Cartographic photo project “At the filming locations of the film “Brother 2”

Project started making it in 2022, in parallel with the project for the first part of the film. In the second part, we had to search for many locations armed with Yandex and Google panoramas. For about six months I was looking for someone who would take photos in Chicago.

From a technical point of view, nothing has changed; I talked about it in the article on the first part of the film. I would like to dwell in more detail on searching and shooting locations.

Television center “Ostankino”

In the summer of 2022, I sent an official letter and received permission to take photographs, but when I asked when exactly I could come, they stopped answering. I managed to take a photo during a tour of Ostankino.

Sandunovskie baths

I wrote an official letter and agreed on a shooting date that same day.

Agency for the Management and Use of Historical and Cultural Monuments

I wrote an official letter in 2022, and received an answer that photography was not possible. I wrote again in 2023 and managed to come to an agreement.

Starokonyushenny Lane, 43 and 41с1

This location had to be found manually. In the episode you can see house numbers 43 and 41. Armed with the address list, I went through several pairs in the center, looking at Yandex panoramas and found a location on the 5-6th pair.

Lubyanka metro station

It was obvious that this was the center, but what metro station was the question. I’ve been to this place many times, but I didn’t recognize it from the episode, Yandex panoramas helped again.

Sheremetyevo Airport, terminal F

Previously, I found on Yandex maps which terminal it was. I saw that it was temporarily closed. I wrote an official letter, agreed on a shooting date, and a little later received a message that you can come at any time, since the territory is not closed.

Gorki Leninskie, the main house of the Estate

I bought tickets for the excursion, walked for a long time and thought that I would never get into this room. There were 2 minutes to repeat this shot.

John F. Kennedy Airport

A long journey through Google panoramas. Sergei went to shoot in 2022, everything was blocked by a construction fence and there was no way to repeat the shot. In 2023, they thought that the fence could have been removed, but it still stood. The guards said that reconstruction would take a very long time.

Metro line overpass

The only landmark is the overpass that turns into a bridge. I walked through the panoramas and found this place. Judging by them, the area is fenced. I wrote to nearby organizations whose backyard faced this overpass, but in reality Sergei freely walked in and repeated the shot.

806 West Maxwell Street

In Chicago I had to find almost everything myself through panoramas. This neighborhood was found thanks to Jim's Diner. Now the diner is located in a different place, but on some archival site I saw the address and relative to it I understood where this episode was filmed.

Blue Line Lounge & Grill Bar

The Metro club was located in this place in the film. There is indeed a club with that name in Chicago, but it is located in a different location. Several hours of walking and this location was found.

1410 North Honore Street

The longest search for a location, about a week for sure. The only landmark is the metro overpass. It's funny that the trash can seems to be the same.
