How to help yourself if you can’t find a job for a long time

This Brands on horseback. According to statistics, a modern person changes his profession on average once every 5 years. And a place of work in a similar position is even more common. It’s good if you managed to prepare and find a new place. And if so burned outthat you ran away, losing your slippers, and now you’re sitting without a job? We tell you how to support yourself and not become discouraged if you find yourself in this situation.

Keep yourself on your toes

Against the backdrop of sudden idleness and stress, there is a great temptation to plop down on the sofa and not get up from it for about an eternity. Stock up on chips and play Dota. This is exactly what you shouldn’t do. That is, it is possible, of course, but in moderation.

Don’t break the regime, then it will be difficult to restore it. Leave the daily routine approximately as it was, with the exception of relaxation for sufficient sleep. Give yourself time to laze around a little, like on vacation, and then get back into shape. Instead of work, do not do nonsense, but do other useful things. Searching for vacancies, going to interviews, learning new skills.

If you’ve been involved in sports, don’t give up under any circumstances. The psyche has enough stress. And forced absence from work is stressful. If you haven’t been doing it, now is the time to start! You’ll kill two birds with one stone. You will use the freed up time and prevent the blues from developing. Physical activity burns cortisol (a hormone produced during stress) and rewards you with dopamine.

The regime is fine, that’s already good. It’s time to clear your head of harmful attitudes.

You don’t = your job

New acquaintances like to be one of the first to ask the question: “What do you do?”, meaning profession. People love to associate us with our work. Even identify. And we ourselves are accustomed to thinking about ourselves this way. But the truth is that our personality does not equal who we work to be. This is just one facet of it. It’s useful to remember this. Otherwise, even the thought of a period of unemployment can be terrifying. After all, if there is no work, what are we then? Yes, the same thing as it was, only temporarily occupied with other things.

It’s not forever

Life is a series of ups and downs. And if there is any drawdown, know that this is natural. This is the quiet time before the next takeoff. And to take off, you need to accumulate strength, so such periods are also needed. Set yourself a comfortable deadline and relax. Calmly look for a suitable job and believe in yourself. If you have a safety net and financial opportunity, don’t rush to immediately run to the first job that comes your way. This decision comes from anxiety and a feeling of insecurity. Make an agreement with yourself: you will always have time for a bad job, it won’t run away. Until the deadline expires, consider your options calmly.

Not a disaster, but new opportunities

Don’t treat the situation like a disaster. Better think about what new opportunities it brings with it. Write down everything that comes to mind on a piece of paper and put it in a visible place – remind yourself from time to time.

What might these possibilities be?

  • Relax and gain strength for the next stage of life;

  • Find a better job than the previous one;

  • Use the freed up time and brain resources to reflect and understand yourself. Because in the daily bustle of work we are so busy that we have stopped hearing ourselves;

  • Close all the tasks that were hanging like a dead weight due to lack of free time.

As you can see, there are many advantages. What’s next? Let’s now look at your surroundings. Who helps and who hinders.

Avoid whiners

It is very important to maintain a positive attitude during such a period. But if we ourselves have not fallen into depression, well-wishers can safely help us with this. All relatives and friends who sow seeds of doubt and uncertainty in you – let them rest aside until better times. Sometimes even the question itself infuriates: “Well, you still haven’t found a job?” If you repeat such a question every other day, then a couple of weeks is enough to drive a person crazy. Therefore, filter your surroundings like never before.

Let only people who believe in you surround you. With those who are particularly anxious, you may not share information about temporary unemployment at all. Otherwise, they may begin to worry about you so actively that they will infect you with panic.

Make connections

Social connections are a valuable resource. You can sit on the NN for a million years and not find a job, and then get a job through the second cousin of a former classmate. Provided that you keep in touch with this classmate. Now that you have time and energy, start restoring old connections and establishing new ones. Attend seminars, psychological or business trainings, conversation clubs, exhibitions, master classes. All this can be found for free. Meet new people there. And be sure to inform everyone in a relaxed manner that you are looking for a job. Cast your fishing rods wherever you can and one day there might be a bite somewhere.

Also, don’t be shy to post information about your job search on all your social networks and ask for a repost. Don’t forget to attach your resume.

So, to get through the unemployed period safely: keep your mind and body toned, make connections and avoid toxins. And also, don’t compare yourself to others (they talked about this in their telegram channel). This period will end, but the experience will remain with you.
