Guide to interviews
Let's begin!
Points to pay attention to
Let me tell you about the main points that will definitely help you during interviews:
find your uniqueness and show it
make an informative resume
tell more during interviews than you are asked
prepare cool pet projects
talk about your work experience in terms of three points:
never rush, focus on quality
prepare a structured story about yourself and your skills
These are the main points that I can point out. Let me now tell you in more detail about some of them.
Uniqueness
One day a colleague told me that she came to him for an interview a girl with a prepared small presentation with beautiful slides. Everyone was very surprised and listened carefully to the candidate. In the end, she was hired.
Why am I saying this? I want to say that it is very important (especially today) to find something unique in yourself. This could be anything, from a presentation to yourself or a telegram bot that monitors your personal budget to a resume website. I'm sure everyone had a ton of ideas. So sit down and think about what cool things you can show your employer.
Informative summary
Let me briefly tell you what an informative resume is. An informative resume is a resume that is written factually, without any fluff. Here you should have work experience, what exactly you did (it is advisable to express your successes through metrics, for example, you raised MAU by 2 times), what stack you used, etc.. Very often I see in candidates’ resumes that they only list the tasks they performed, but they are not supported by anything in terms of results. Therefore, such a small mistake is quite common, try to make the summary to the point.
Talk more
Most people underestimate soft skills, but in vain. After all, they are the ones who will help you get a new job. Learn to speak interestingly and more. For example, you were asked about your education, you can only tell about the university itself, or you can also add some interesting projects during your studies, this will be a small plus for your candidacy.
Pet projects and their role for a trainee/junior
When you have no real work experience, pet projects can be an excellent replacement. In them you get as close as possible to working conditions, so when you are an intern/junior, have good pet projects that show your practical skills.
You will be very lucky if your pet project is most suitable for the tasks that are performed in the company you are interviewing for. In this case, this will be a jackpot for you, which will allow you to receive the coveted offer!
Never rush
I have a very sad experience when I rushed through a SQL problem and did not notice a very important wording in the condition. I was lucky that I stopped in time and still corrected my mistake. What would have happened if I hadn't noticed? Obviously nothing good.
During the interview, it is very important to focus on high-quality completion of the task; show how you can write code beautifully, talk about the algorithm of the task, and in general, that you are an ideal candidate who is not in a hurry.
Total
In any case, these points will not help you get an offer without doing anything, but they can bring you closer to this cherished goal. It all depends on you, go through as many interviews as possible and gain this irreplaceable experience.
