4 reasons and what to do about them

“AI works, and you get $ 1000” – with this motto, everyone and sundry has been talking about all kinds of neural networks for several months now. They offer to send AI-generated materials to customers and promise mountains of gold in a matter of days. But no one says that such hype headlines have little to do with reality. They told me what was wrong with ChatGPT.

How does the scheme that everyone is talking about work?

A bunch of “experts” and just “kind” people offer everyone to create a portfolio of texts generated by neural networks. The next step they advise is to open freelance exchanges, take a few orders and give tasks to AI. We are advised to bring the content that ChatGPT or another neural network will create into the proper form, hold it for a couple of hours or days, and then throw it off to customers. At the same time, a pause between the generation of texts and the delivery of work has become an obligatory step: only in this way the client will not suspect anything. Done, you are gorgeous and rich. I wish I could say the same, but alas.

What’s the catch?

Are you hoping that the neural network will do all the work for you? Very naive. If you do not specialize in the area in which you decided to earn extra money with the help of AI, then you should not wait for acceptable material. Experts who are really versed in technology unanimously repeat: AI content should always be checked, its relevance and adequacy analyzed, and wording corrected. And this is not their whim: neural networks make factual errors, violate logic, do not always guess the context, and even get confused in grammar. Without competencies in the field of texts, you are unlikely to be able to “comb” the material of the neural network so that it looks at least “four”.

Nothing personal

Neural networks do not take out content personalization. A person who understands the philosophy of the brand can create a text that will fall into the hearts of readers. And AI faces challenges when it comes to understanding the emotions, fears, and behaviors of different people. Neural networks lack intuition and empathy to really immerse themselves in a situation, use psychological tricks and find the right words. And the point here is not only in the wording: different platforms and audiences need their own formats, accents and targeted actions.

A person understands many nuances subconsciously or through professional experience, and it is almost impossible to explain all these subtleties to a neural network. So if you need unique and situational content, AI is unlikely to meet your need. A good sense of humor or subtle irony, by the way, should not be expected from them either.

information bubble

From time to time, ChatGPT writes that it can solve tasks like auditing a site or searching for data on the Internet. But when we ask him to do this, he consistently gives the same type of answers, like: “I do not have access to the Internet, I am trained on data collected until September 2021.” The generalized materials from ChatGPT may still have an acceptable look, but they definitely will not have the actual context.

The neural network has limitations in the form of learning algorithms and the database on which it was created. To date, AI is unable to obtain recent news and information about current events. The release of GPT-5 at the end of 2023 can eliminate this shortcoming, and then neural networks will become an even more popular tool. But whether everything will really be as rosy as they promise us – no one can say.

No client, no money

One of the key skills of a freelancer is to communicate their value. No copywriter has yet become a millionaire by completing a few simple tasks on the stock exchanges. Cool specialists spend years learning how to sell their services.

Doing work according to the client’s requirements is half the battle. It is also important to correctly present it: talk about the meanings invested in the material, justify the choice of structure or style, emphasize how the content will solve the problem of the business or the customer himself. The neural network will not cope with all this. Just selling the finished material will not work – you still need to find someone who will need it and who is ready to pay for it. So if you’ve never done what the AI asked you to do, then finding a client won’t be easy.

And now what i can do?

First of all, develop your hard and soft skills. Turning AI into a personal slave is not the best strategy. But you can become a specialist who works effectively in tandem with modern technologies.

What soft-skills will be needed for a successful start in freelancing?

  • Research skills: the ability to search, analyze and structure information.

  • Creative thinking, which will allow you to look for non-standard solutions and approaches.

  • Critical thinking, that is, the ability to analyze and evaluate the results of work, identify and correct shortcomings.

  • Communication skills to communicate effectively with clients and audiences and explain complex concepts.

  • Flexibility and adaptability, thanks to which you can quickly adapt to new technologies and market requirements.

  • Emotional intelligence, which will allow you to understand emotions and manage them, both your own and those of other people.

Constantly pumping your hard skills is equally important. Develop observation, practice creating texts in different formats, study materials shared by experts in your field, follow the latest trends. For content makers, the skills of conducting interviews, fact-checking and SEO-optimization of texts may be especially relevant. And it doesn’t hurt to learn the basics of consumer psychology and marketing strategies and techniques.

It is possible and necessary to use neural networks as an assistant in your work, but trying to pass off the work of a neural network as your own is a failed undertaking. You will not earn mountains of gold on this, and you will obviously spoil your professional reputation.
