Why did our team’s transition to a product-based development model fail?

What is the result

The resulting model failed to achieve its goal. Platforms have not been able to synchronize the functionality. And the products never became independent.

In the first couple of months, the team lost four developers. And after some time, the instigators of this transformation themselves safely left for another company to implement their brilliant ideas there. The team had no choice but to rebuild into a kind of hybrid scheme in order to somehow smooth out the problems described above.

In my opinion, the main reason for the failure is that this transformation was artificial. The team did not have natural prerequisites for such a transformation (physical expansion of the team and/or natural formation of products within the project). The team was small and it worked well.

ps Now it seems to me that this whole transformation happened because someone was simply pursuing their own selfish goals.
