open database, sister project of Wikipedia – integrated with it

.

Just like in Wikipedia, bots scurry around Wikidata – for example, if you inserted a link to Github, a bot will come and put down all the versions, with dates:

Inserting versions is a job for the machine

Infoboxes on Wikipedia on the right – often take data from Wikidata. So do search engines. Another integration example – one line generates twin brothers of any city:

Different language sections of Wikipedia for the same article may contain different numbers – ideally, the numbers are stored in Wikidata and inserted into Wikipedia from there, here are examples

There is a built-in tool for creating queries – I wrote this today kveri (language SPARQL) to get all freeware games for Windows, sorted by year, with links to Steam and website:

Here is a large page of examples – you can take a ready-made one, change the ID – and see new results.

Here's another interesting request for me – it shows free software projects written in Go.

There are various built-in data visualizations, for example people born in Minsk – two mouse clicks – and we no longer see a list, but photographs:

Another built-in visualization is a graph, for example population of Minsk:

splash because some item contains an incorrect number

splash because some item contains an incorrect number

Visualization with balls – for example popular eye colors:

Linked list – for example Minsk metro:

Another visualization – Timeline:

Map – items can have coordinates – places or events:

Eat API. access-control-allow-origin: * – that is you can make requests even from the browser:

There is an ecosystem of programs for loading, analyzing, reading, visualizing data from Wikidata, here are a few examples:

Battle visualization – where and when:

A similar example is where and when the church was built:

Where and when are the next elections:

Human connections – here's the Simpsons:

Family of Nikita Mikhalkov:

Here is a list of query tools.

The entire database can be downloaded – 110 gigabytes. Software as open as Wikipedia – you can install it yourself.

One of the reasons for me to write this text is to advertise the service so that more people will invest. For example, you have your favorite games, films, books, cities – you can check how they are present on Wikidata and possibly improve or add them if they are not there – find an example (another popular game, film, book) – and click Create a new item. Documentation and community will help you, including Discord. Wikidata is a useful tool for analysis that you may find useful.
