How I solved the test task for the position of Junior Product Manager

Cheerful product

Cheerful product

In addition to my main love for infrastructure and virtualization, I have long been interested in the topic of product management and periodically read relevant materials, but I noticed that for quite a long time Vladislav Noskovets’s post with examples of test tasks for the position of Product manager hangs in the top search results (on Google, on Yandex it’s generally a portal opens to hell), but new ones don’t appear. And it’s not particularly easy to find examples of structured solutions.

In this article I want to solve one case from his selection (No5. Mos.ru), simultaneously solving several problems, firstly, attracting the community to the discussion; it would be great if more experienced colleagues left links to useful materials for juniors. Secondly, I would like to hear constructive comments on my approach to solving this problem, which again will help beginners better understand the topic.

Task.

No. 5. Mos.ru. Junior Product manager LK

In the test task, please answer the following questions:

  • Which personal accounts (of any services from any business) in your opinion are cool benchmarks and why?

  • What 5 improvements can you suggest to the MOS LC and why exactly them? What metrics can they impact directly or indirectly?

  • How to structure the process of working on these tasks “from idea in test” to “launch”?

For the test, you can choose any form: MIRO, Notion, presentation, Google Docs or anything else. In your resume and test, we expect you to demonstrate structure, understanding of the product life cycle and its improvements, and data informed thinking.

Solution.

Examples of cool benchmarks

  • T-Bank

Why: A user-friendly interface, functionality for managing finances, and the ability to quickly access services such as lending and investments.

  • Yandex.Taxi

Why: Easy to order a taxi, the ability to track the car in real time, a variety of payment methods.

  • Netflix

Why: Personalized content, simple and intuitive interface, ability to manage subscriptions and preferences.

  • My tax

Why: Convenient interaction with the tax system, the ability to quickly submit declarations, availability of information on tax debts.

  • Public services

Why: Transparency in receiving services from authorities, the ability to track the status of applications and automatic notifications.

To the question why them? I tried to give examples from private and government decisions. I also believe that you can answer by thinking aside about the features: Ease of use, Personalization, Accessibility, Efficiency, Interactivity.

What 5 improvements can you suggest?

I've highlighted a few key improvements that I think can significantly improve usability and make the user experience even more enjoyable. Since the product always answers the questions Why and Who needs it?

  1. Personalized notifications

Notifications about new services and payment deadlines will help users not to miss important events.

  2. Interactive chat bot

A “normal” chatbot for quickly answering frequently asked questions will significantly reduce the load on the support team and improve user interaction.

  3. Simplified navigation

Logical grouping of services and adding a search bar will make the personal account more convenient for users.

  4. Analytics and reports

Tools for viewing statistics on service usage would increase user engagement.

  5. Mobile optimization

Improving the interface for mobile devices will help improve loading speed and ease of use of the personal account.

Each of the proposed improvements addresses specific user problems and can positively impact key metrics such as engagement and satisfaction.

How to build a process for working on these tasks?

Now that we have discussed improvements for the Mos.ru Personal Account, it is important to understand how to implement these ideas in practice, I like to draw in figma, it turned out like this:

Let's describe the stages in more detail:

  • Idea

Collecting ideas through user surveys and feedback analysis.

  • Analysis and evaluation

Prioritize and evaluate the impact of proposals on key metrics.

  • Prototyping

Prototyping using tools such as Figma or Miro.

  • Testing

Conducting A/B testing to collect data on user behavior.

  • Analysis of results

Comparison of metrics before and after implementing changes.

  • Launch

Developing a launch plan and informing users about innovations.

  • Feedback and Iteration

Collect feedback after launch and make necessary changes.

In general, I tried to reflect in the decision proposals for improving the product, maintain a structured approach, and not forget about working with users and the team. I hope this analysis was useful/interesting and will bring clarity to the tasks and work processes of a product manager for beginners.
