A $400 model was released. Device capabilities

Over the past couple of years, laptop and smartphone manufacturers have developed devices with flexible displays, as well as two (or more) screens. Such devices have not become particularly widespread, but they already have their own audience, judging by the release of more and more new models of smartphones with flexible screens. Laptops with similar technology cannot boast of such popularity, but still there are some progress here. Details are under the cut.

Topton L14 – dual-screen laptop for just $400

A few days ago, information appeared about a laptop that was produced by a not particularly well-known company. But this does not play a special role; another thing is of interest – the fact that it has two displays at once. As for performance, this is a regular office option with an Intel N95 on board. True, it supports up to 32 GB of RAM and 2 TB SSD. It is also possible to use a stylus.

Actually, this is the most inexpensive laptop with two screens at the moment. This manufacturer also has other devices – the Topton L13, with a similar price tag and 13-inch displays, and the Topton L15, where everything is the same, only the diagonal is only 10.5 inches. Yes, it would be more logical to expect a device with 15 inches, but no, this has its own logic in naming models. It also has a smaller battery and sells for just $370.

But let’s return to the device from the title. Here are its characteristics:

The dimensions of the Topton L14 are 316 x 212 x 17 mm and it weighs 1.5 kg. It has two USB Type-C ports, 2 USB 3.0 Type-A ports, a mini HDMI port, a 3.5mm audio jack, a microSD card reader, and a DC power input. There is also a 2MP webcam and 1W stereo speakers.

According to the developers, the battery does not provide very long battery life – from 3 to 5 hours, which is probably not very good. But this is not surprising. Because even with a low-cost, low-performance quad-core processor designed for low-cost, low-power laptops, running two 2.2K touchscreen displays requires a lot of power.

As for other characteristics, the device has a WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 4.2 wireless module. The case is metal, which is good – it will be stronger. Well, Windows 11 Pro is used as the OS.

Probably, with such a low price, the company has the opportunity to gain a foothold in the market with its dual-screen device – people will buy it, if only out of interest.

What else do manufacturers offer?

Yoga Book 9i from Lenovo

This is probably the newest model with two screens. It was developed by Lenovo, which has the most devices with multiple displays. The company probably sells them successfully, otherwise why would it introduce this type of model every year?

As for this model, it has two 13.3-inch OLED displays. There is also a wireless keyboard with magnetic mounts and a special pyramid stand. The screen resolution is 2880×1800 pixels and the refresh rate is 60 Hz. The brightness of each display can be adjusted independently of each other if desired.

The set includes a stylus for taking notes and drawing and a stand-holder for screens. In terms of specifications, the device is equipped with a 13th generation Intel Core i7-U15 processor, Intel Iris Xe graphics card, four Bowers & Wilkins speakers and Dolby Atmos surround sound technology. There are three USB-C inputs with Thunderbolt 4 support.

RAM – 16 GB, SSD storage capacity – 512 GB or 1 TB. In offline mode, the device can work for about seven hours without recharging, with two active displays. If you turn off the second one, the operating time will increase to 14 hours.

The weight of the device is 1.38 kg, dimensions are 300x204x16 mm. The cost starts from $2100, which, of course, is not cheap.

As far as one can judge, the device is universal – it can be useful for developers, and for those who only need office programs, and for gamers (though not for the most “heavy” games”). Well, for designers – it’s a complete freedom, two touch screens at once, and even a stylus.

ThinkBook Plus Twist

Also a model from Lenovo, but its difference from the previous model is that there are two screens, but they are located on different sides of the “lid”, which is no longer a lid, in general. What’s even more interesting is that one screen is OLED and the other is E Ink. Working with the second one allows you to significantly extend the battery life of the device.

As for the parameters of the OLED screen, its characteristics are as follows: 13.3″ diagonal with a resolution of 2.8K, brightness 400 cd/m², refresh rate 60 Hz.

E Ink parameters are of course different. Here the diagonal is slightly smaller, 12 inches, the refresh rate is 12 Hz. In general, it’s suitable for surfing, not to mention reading, working with office software, etc. With the E Ink display activated, the device can operate for up to 21 hours.

Well, inside there is a 13th generation Intel Core processor, up to 16 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of disk storage. The developers equipped the device with two Thunderbolt 4 (USB Type-C) ports. The weight of the device is only 1.35 kg.

As for the cost, it starts from $1649.

Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 16

It is the flagship gaming laptop of the Republic of Gamers family in 2022 (updated in 2023). The diagonal of the main screen here is 16 inches. The additional display with a diagonal of 14 inches, with which some other models of devices from ASUS have already been produced, has been changed; it now moves to the main screen when the lid is opened, so that it is a continuation of the main one. It can fully operate in two modes: 4K UHD @ 120 Hz or Full HD @ 240 Hz.

As for the configuration, the device is equipped with an AMD Ryzen 9 6980HX processor, DDR5 memory and top-end NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti graphics with a thermal package of up to 150 W. The device supports 32 GB of RAM. There are ports HDMI ports, 2.5Gbit Ethernet, 2x USB-C DP, 2x USB 3.2. Memory capacity – 2 TB.

The weight of the device is 2.6 kg.

Its cost at the beginning of sales was about $5,000, but now these devices are no longer so expensive, although more expensive than most other gaming laptops. Moreover, ASUS has released an updated model with an AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card priced at $3,999.

In addition to this device, ASUS has other devices with a similar design. These are ASUS Zenbook Duo UX482, Asus DuoASUS Zenbook Duo UX482EAR-EB51T, Asus Zenbook Pro DUO 15 OLED UX582 and Pro Duo UX582.

If you have one of the listed devices, or have worked with them, tell us in the comments how you like them? Is everything good, convenient, or are these just hype devices that are difficult to work with?
