Younger. Snom D315 IP Phone Review

Good day, colleagues.
We continue our series of reviews of desktop devices. This time we have chosen an IP phone for you Snom D315… This is one of the younger models in the line D3xx, having in appearance the features characteristic of its line, but somewhat different in design. Welcome to our review!

To begin with, by tradition, we will offer you a short video review of the model

It should be noted that the D315 has a similar model from our 7xx series D715, the overview can be found here

Unpacking and packaging

Phone box of a unified size, indicating the model of the device and the initial version of the software on a special sticker. The box contains:

  • Telephone set
  • Quick Start Guide
  • Stand
  • Category 5E Ethernet cable
  • Tube and twisted cord to connect it

Unpacking the phone, you notice the unusual location of the device, it is located at the bottom of the box, while the cables, stand and instructions are located at the top.

Design

The appearance of the device is classic for IP-phones. The shape of the case reminds of the accessory of the D3xx series: slightly raised towards the upper part, the case decreases its thickness in the lower part with a smooth wave. The series is also indicated by the MWI indicator located in the middle of the upper display frame and the rounded dial keys. The rest of the device is made in a slightly simpler manner than the older brothers, D345 and D385.

The BLF keys here, although they are located on the phone case, do not have a separate screen for displaying values, the inscriptions are applied to the insert located under the transparent plastic. Keys with light indication the telephone has five… By default, they are already programmed for certain functions, but you can change their functionality through the web interface of the IP phone.

The device has a horizontally elongated graphic screen. Below it are the context keys and navigation buttons. Under the joystick there is a block of keys for sound control, again making us remember the older models of the series. The unit includes a volume rocker, speaker key and headset.

Some of the phone’s connectors are usually located on the back in the recess of the case. These are the connectors for the handset, headset and EXT connector for connecting an expansion panel. The rest of the ports are located behind the screen, on the plane of the body perpendicular to it. Here are the network ports, power connector and USB port.

Such an arrangement of ports is dictated by ergonomics, those connectors, to which reconnections are rarely carried out, are located on the back of the phone and are partially covered by a stand, and those that constantly require access during operation are placed in a place accessible to the user and administrator.

Software and customization

Let’s go to the web interface of our phone and remember how the function keys of the phone are configured as a whole and BLF keys in particular. As you probably already know, on our phones you can customize almost any function key. Let’s go to the corresponding menu and take a closer look at the setting.

Most of the functionality is available for all keys, of course, with the exception of the busy indication. For each of the keys, you need to select the type of use and indicate the number if the use of the function is associated with a subscriber number, such as in BLF or speed dialing. The specificity of setting up this device is that there is no need to specify a label for BLF keys from the phone settings interface.

Functionality and operation

The phone is pleasant during operation, there are enough function keys for everyday work. In general, when working with this device, the word “enough” appears in my head all the time. This is exactly what our engineers wanted to see this IP-phone in the development process, easy to configure and operate, which means it is convenient and functional enough not to be inferior to other IP-phones.

Despite the general simplicity of the model, the sound of the device remains at its best, providing the user with good audibility of the interlocutor, thanks to high-quality handset loudspeakers and speakerphone. The microphones of the device are highly sensitive, and the range of frequencies they capture has been calibrated to minimize noise in our own acoustic laboratory.
Like its older brothers from the D3xx line, the D315 is equipped with an ergonomically shaped tube that increases the convenience of using the device. Like other models of our production, it uses electronicrather than a mechanical hang-up button. This allows us to minimize potential mechanical breakdowns of frequently used components and thereby ensure all our products 3 years warranty

Accessories

The Snom D315 has 5 built-in BLF keys, which is enough for daily work, but not enough for monitoring a large number of employees. If you need the latter, you can add an expansion panel to the device. D3having “on board” 18 keys with two-color indication. Such panels are connected to the phone 3

Naturally, since D315 has USB-port, Wi-Fi adapter is compatible with it A210allowing the phone to connect to Wi-Fi networks, including those operating at 5 GHz, as well as a DECT dongle A230for connecting DECT headsets and Snom speaker C52 SP to the telephone set.

Summarize

Snom D315 will be a good assistant in daily work for employees who value ergonomics and sound quality. It will appeal to ordinary employees and junior executives, and, complete with expansion panels, will suit the secretary of a small company.
