Why write in PHP in 2020? Holivarim is an interactive podcast on Youtube this Thursday

In early June, one of the leading “Zinc Selling” posted on Habré a resonant article “What is the niche of the language and will PHP8 help solve [его] pressing issues (spoiler: IMHO, no). ” Shortly before that, we decided that it was time to make a report, why choose PHP, when around a hundred flowers languages. These things so coincided in time that I wanted to arrange a joint broadcast and discuss the niche and prospects of the language – from different points of view.

Join the broadcast June 18 at 20 hours in Moscow – comments on YouTube will definitely fall into the issue. Or maybe we’ll come up with voice communication.

On air will come:

  • Permanent Podcast Hosts Zinc Prod – Anton Okolelov, Nikita Vasilchenko and Oleg Gritsak.
  • Maxim Shamaev – author of reports on translation experience ancient PHP 7 project building trace and logging between microservices and the upcoming report “Why write in PHP today.”
  • Alexander Mayorov, a lot of writes about PHP and Python on the Geekjob portal.

1. Decryption discussion will appear in July-August as a separate material. We will update this post with reference to it.

2. If you don’t like YouTube or cannot connect to live, record audio version will be released on Soundcloud, Yandex.Music, Apple podcasts and other platforms on the 20th of June.

3. What to discuss – in many ways, the conversation will be an improvisation for an hour or so. But we sketched a direction: if it seems that something important has been missed, but something can be omitted, do not hesitate to write about it and throw your suggestions. So far among the thoughts:

  • How and by whom is the PHP development market formed, who in fact decides what to write and rewrite projects on.
  • A difficult childhood, growing up and the current state of the 25-year-old language – that they corrected, that they learned to solve differently. What and who is usually faced in reality. And what of what I want is really needed.
  • Why PHP, which has been buried for about 20 years, may be the “new cobol” – and what benefits are there to anyone.
  • Compare with other languages: well, where without it. And, of course, we will discuss the article itself and the reaction to it.

p.s. Spoiler at the request of the leading podcast: guys sometimes use and do not cut profanity when recording. But overall, the content of the podcast is, on average, like talking in a smoking room / bar / kitchen, so it should be fun.
