This is a regular digest of events held with our support. In the coming months, lectures and master classes, student olympiads, a scientific stand-up and Science Slam are waiting for you.

Lectures and master classes


“Global warming is a real challenge for the cold industry”

When: January 29
Where: st. Lomonosov St., 9, ITMO University

The conference, organized by ITMO University, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the International Academy of Refrigeration and other organizations. Participants will discuss energy and environmental issues. Here are just a few of the topics: green systems for cooling data centers, RES and nanostructured materials.

Speakers’ reports will be published in the magazines “Refrigeration”, “Empire of Cold”, “Bulletin of the International Academy of Refrigeration” and on the Internet portal Refportal.

ITMO Open Science – Science Day at ITMO University

WhenFebruary 7th
Where: 29 lin. Vasilievsky Island, 2, Erarta Museum of Modern Art

A conference where scientists and engineers from ITMO University will demonstrate development and share experiences. Part of the presentations will be held in the format Science slam – the speakers will have ten minutes to tell in simple words about key projects over the past year.

Among the speakers are Alexander Bukhanovsky, director of the research institute of high technology computer technologies, Alexey Sergushichev, head of the bioinformatics group of the international laboratory “Computer Technologies”.

Also in the program: an exhibition of the best developments of ITMO University in the format of electronic posters, an open interview with the rector and Industrial Battle – speeches of partner companies on developments that are conducted jointly with the university’s specialists.

Workshop on negotiations and conflict management

WhenApril 22
Where: st. Lomonosov St., 9, ITMO University

The master class will be conducted by our teachers of the SoftSkills disciplines. They will consider the key mistakes that arise in the negotiations, as well as talk about conflict behavior strategies.

The event will go on for three hours. The first hour is a theoretical part about the basics of the negotiation process. Next – group practical work in a game format.


Student competitions


Interuniversity competition of research and innovation projects

When: until January 31
Where: online

Competition of projects among teams consisting of students, graduate students and university professors. The topic is “Business in biotechnology and closed-loop economics.”

It is part of the 2014–2020 Russia – Southeast Finland cooperation program, which was launched to stimulate research and development of startups in the field of biotechnology and the circulating economy. The jury will consider projects in the field of food and energy-saving technologies, biotechnologies for healthcare and a couple of others.

Applications accepted until January 31. Authors of selected projects will be able to get into the Russian-Finnish accelerator, get feedback from experts and expand their team.


Student Olympiad RTM CHALLENGE

When: February 1 – April 27
Where: online (the final will be held in Moscow)

The Olympiad is organized by the IT company RTM GROUP, which is engaged in forensic examinations in the field of information security. At the qualifying stage, participants will be offered several tasks to choose from:

  • Written works on the topic of information security, economics and jurisprudence;
  • PR projects and marketing research;
  • IT Innovation Projects.

All university students can participate – need to register Online (the form will appear at the end of January) and send the work by mail until March 31.

The winners of the qualifying stage on April 27 will go to the final round to Moscow. There they will have a buffet reception from the organizers, lectures by experts on information security, presentation of finished works and awarding. The prize fund includes: internships and work at RTM GROUP, educational programs at the expense of the company, as well as publication of projects on the company’s website and in the media.

Competition “Science needs you!”

When: until June 5, 2020
Where: online

Competition for undergraduate students or graduates. The main prize is admission to the magistracy of the faculty of laser photonics and optoelectronics of our university.

The task is to talk about scientific achievements over the years of study: to prepare a motivation letter and provide diplomas, articles and extracts with grades. After filing an application the works will be analyzed and interviewed to determine the degree of motivation of the contestant. Winners will be credited to the selected master’s program without entrance tests.

The event is part of the anniversary program dedicated to the 120th anniversary of our university. ITMO University graduates, employees and students will compete for the title of the best KVN team.

FORT ITMO. Back to the Future

When: April 5
Where: Kronverksky pr., 49

This is a city quest game based on the famous Fort Boyard show. Participants are waiting for intellectual, creative and sports competitions of various levels of complexity.

Scientific stand-up “Quantum danced”

WhenApril 17th
Where: Konyushennaya square, d.2A, club “Dance floor”

The next meeting of the stand-up club, created under the auspices of the ITMO University. Virtuosos of big data, photonics and IT talk about science – accessible and always with humor.
