what beginners face. Based on my company's experience

In 2024, we decided to enter the arena of industry awards related to website development. We have selected events that correspond to our specifics and timing. Between winter and spring, we managed to capture three prizes: Workspace, Ruward and Gold site.

We started with a thorough analysis of our cases, paying attention to the most interesting tasks within the projects. Our task was to select a project that would be interesting to read and consider.

Given PHPDev's core niche, we narrowed our selection down to automotive websites. Thus, a project was chosen to improve the official website of the Hyundai distributor in Belarus.

Focusing on this project, we wrote the case, including a detailed description of the problems we solved; added various screenshots, etc. By providing such data, it is much easier for the jury and the wider audience to evaluate and understand the essence of our work and contribution to the development of the automotive industry in Belarus.

Let's start with our first entry: Workspace

First, we analyzed past winners to understand how relevant our case would be. We were in the process of finalizing it, and it was necessary to take into account that this was not a site from scratch. Last year's winners included website improvements that gave us the green light.

In fact, everything is quite clear there. There is a template that needs to be filled in with information about the project.

As you can see, it’s hard to get confused here: each stage of development has its own filling column. You can add illustrations and videos to the template!

We developed a series of pictures for this application, succinctly described the tasks and their solutions, emphasizing the benefits that the client received by working with us.

Also, to demonstrate the capabilities of the site, we made a recording showing the capabilities of the site and the smoothness of its operation.

What's the result? We received a participant badge, and the number of views on the case itself increased.

Unfortunately, we were unable to maintain our ranking after the first stage, as the jury gave preference to projects that were developed from scratch.

We took this as a good experience and an incentive for further development and moved on 🙂

The second we conquered was Ruward

We also went there with a project to improve the Hyundai website. It would seem, what to do there if the text can be taken from the workspace? Still, there are differences, and it’s somehow stupid to leave the text just the same.

This award was distinguished by its way of paying for nominations. At the workspace, you simply send your details, pay, and the organizers send a notification that you are registered. In the case of ruward, everything was more interesting: by paying for the application, the balance of “talents” is replenished. This was the first sign of “unusual ratings”.

We had 145 of them, and in order to take part in the nomination, you need to “list” them where you want to nominate the case.

And this is not the only feature!

To participate, it is necessary to develop a presentation that will succinctly reveal the case, which implies additional preparation costs.

So we again reviewed the entire list of tasks and their solutions in order to place the information on the slides as ergonomically as possible.

In total, the presentation took 13 slides. Also attached to the application is a detailed description of the project, similar to what was on the WorkSpace.

In total, 49 people were included in the nominations we entered. Voting continues throughout April, so we can’t say anything about the results yet. Very interesting what will happen!

Latest for this spring: gold website

To be honest, registering a case for it raises the most questions. If in previous awards everything is clear: for tasks, described and conclusions, their filling lines, then the project registration form looks like this:

The most difficult thing to understand here is: what can we say about the case? By clicking on the “example” link, we are redirected to…

We got in touch with the organizers to find out the details of the design. You don’t want to fill it out incorrectly and fail. The organizers promptly answered our question by sending an example of a case! It’s nice when you get in touch promptly)
All that remains is to collect all the information. But again the question arose: over what time period is it possible to put forward cases? Implemented in 2023 or can older projects be submitted? We again contacted support with this question, because there is no information on the site.

What do we want to serve with? Believe it or not: with a project to improve the Hyundai website. While we are waiting for a response from the organizers.

This is definitely not the end of the story, because we plan to apply for other awards: Tagline and the Runet rating will definitely receive applications from us. Therefore, this article will definitely have a continuation 😉

What can we say to sum it up? It is not difficult for even a beginner to understand the specifics of filling out cases if you carefully read the design rules and adhere to the structure. The main thing is that all rules of participation are clearly described. Our task is to familiarize yourself with the rules and pack the case so that it is informative and understandable for the reader. And then as the competition jury decides.
