Vivaldi 5.0 Android – For big and small

The art of sealing

Whether you are browsing the web on your computer or smartphone, your first place is with tabs. And as a rule – with many tabs. If on a computer this does not really bother, then on a mobile device the screen size creates serious restrictions. We tried to find ways to get around these restrictions.

First of all, we added the ability to place groups of tabs on a two-level panel, similar to the desktop version.

Grouping allows you to free up space on the tab bar, and two-level placement makes working with tabs in a group more comfortable. As soon as you switch to viewing individual tabs, the second panel will disappear so as not to interfere with your web browsing.

Also in the browser settings there are new options that allow you to compact the tabs open in the browser window. The first is to disable the display of the close button on background tabs. With a large number of open web pages, this allows more of the tab title to be displayed for better orientation among the many open tabs. This button is disabled by default.

The second “compacting” option is to display only website icons on the tab. This minimalist style allows more tabs to fit into the browser bar.

These functions will be useful for users of devices with small screens, but for owners of tablets and chromebooks with much larger screens, we have added a whole panel.

Comfortable side

In the mobile version of Vivaldi for tablets, we have added a component that has long and proven itself on desktop versions of the browser – the sidebar. It allows you to manage bookmarks, notes and downloads without distracting from viewing the main content of web pages.

The principle of the panel does not differ from the desktop version, preserving the ability for users not to change the usual style of work in the browser.

From particular to general

Also, in the new version of the browser, options have been added that will be useful regardless of the screen size. So, for example, for more convenience in working with notes in the mobile version of the Vivaldi browser, it became possible to add the text highlighted on the page to an existing note.

And for those who prefer to work with the dark theme of web pages, we have added an option that allows you to quickly switch to the light theme if necessary.
