users can create their own features for the service

Kaiten is the first Russian task tracker to provide such an opportunity within the system. Users have previously noted that one of the key features of Kaiten is its flexibility and ability to adapt to different processes. Now they have the opportunity to develop and implement their own solutions, and soon they will be able to publish them, as well as integrate ready-made add-ons from other developers into their accounts.

Why do we need Add-ons and why doesn't Kaiten develop the features themselves?

Let's be honest, the idea as a whole is not new. Our foreign competitors, for example, Trello and Jira, have similar options. And it is normal practice to provide users with the opportunity to adapt the product “to suit themselves.”

Every day we receive many requests to add new features. However, only those that are needed by the majority of clients are prioritized. But what to do if a specific solution is relevant only for one company, and it is absolutely necessary for it? Exactly for such cases, Add-ons are the ideal solution.

Now users themselves can develop the features they need, implement them and not depend on the platform development team. This gives companies complete control over product customization.

Example of an add-on: integration with Yandex.Disk

For clarity, let's look at an example. Kaiten did not have built-in integration with Yandex.Disk, although some users actively use this service and would like to quickly upload files to tasks. Our developer wrote an add-on code that allowed us to integrate this functionality. The code was first uploaded to our account, and then made public to all users.

Here's how it works: an add-on button has been added to cards; when you click on it, Yandex Disk opens, the necessary files are selected and loaded into the card.

This is what the Yandex Disk add-on looks like in Kaiten. Allows you to add files to the card.

How can a developer add his own add-on to Kaiten?

If you have an idea for an add-on, you can implement it yourself and add it to your account. Here's how it works:

  • Register in the Kaiten developer's office;

  • Explore documentation;

  • Write the add-on code and place it on your server;

  • Paste the link to your repository in the developer's account in Kaiten;

  • Use the add-on you created in your work.

Do you want to make your add-on public for all users?

We will soon add the ability to publish. Announced in Telegram channel. In the future, we plan to launch an add-on monetization feature so that developers can make money on their ideas by offering them to other users.

For users: have an idea for a new feature? Write to us!

If you have a request for a specific feature but don't want to develop it yourself, we can help you. Leave a request via form on our websitedescribe your idea, and we will offer options for its implementation.

Add-ons allow you to expand Kaiten's capabilities and tailor it to each company's unique needs, giving users the freedom to create new features.

So far we have only launched the first release, but we will continue to actively develop this area. If you have questions, comments or suggestions, write them in the comments, we are open to discussion and constructive criticism too.
