Useful and simply unusual projects based on the Raspberry Pi

“Malinka” of all generations is used to implement a variety of projects – both relatively simple and extremely complex. There are a lot of DIY electronics lovers in the world, so there are more projects based on the Raspberry Pi every month.

Well, we describe the most interesting of them from time to time. The new collection contains diverse projects, as indicated in the title. Well, let’s get started!

Guitar tuning

An experienced guitarist, when tuning a guitar, is guided only by his own ear as the main instrument. But beginners have a difficult time. Of course, there are already specialized smartphone apps that work just fine (personally tested). Still, you can always find something even more effective.

And yes, now the guitarists have the opportunity to entrust everything to the robot tuner. The base of this robot is “raspberry”. Plus a few 3D printed mechanical parts, plus a special circuit. Here you can find a detailed technical tutorial on creating a customizer.

He himself is a small device that is able to assess the correctness of the settings and correct the situation, if necessary. All you need to do is put the machine on the tuning peg and pull the string. In addition to the Raspberry Pi Pico, the circuit uses a GM11a electric motor, microphone, L293D Dual H-Bridge, Adafruit Powerboost 1000c module.

Blood test

Well, here we are talking about a vital project in the literal sense. On the basis of the Raspberry Pi, a group of developers from India built

portable system

according to the assessment of the biochemical composition of the blood. Why is the project vital? The fact is that in remote regions of India, not everything is good with medical equipment. Well, it is simply impossible to conduct a biochemical blood test without specialized instruments.

Accordingly, specific diseases characteristic of India are detected already at a later stage. The device in question is capable of detecting a large number of threats. It itself is relatively inexpensive, it can be transported without any problems to any place without the use of specialized vehicles.

The apparatus is, of course, also suitable for performing relatively simple tests, such as assessing the number of red blood cells or the level of glucose in the blood.

Smart doorbell with face recognition

This is already a project useful for owners of houses and apartments. Craftsman using Raspberry Pi

created a doorbell with a camera

, who can distinguish between friends and acquaintances, without confusing them with strangers. As soon as a person appears in the detection zone, the bell rings.

The volume, intensity and other parameters of the call differ depending on who is in front of the door – a friend of the owner or a stranger, for example, a courier of the postal service.

For such a system to work, you need a Raspberry Pi 4 or Raspberry Pi 3, speakers, Wyze Cam V2, 2 memory cards of 8 GB each, one for the “raspberry”, the second for the camera. Monitor with HDMI cable is optional.

A chic project that many people might like. If you want to try your hand – here is a link with a description, which details the nuances of assembling a smart doorbell.

Commercial server

There are many raspberry-based DIY server projects. Well, we have developed a commercial proposal based on the Raspberry Pi 4B. By the way, we are not alone in this – the first was the Raspberry Pi Foundation itself, which supplies its single-board devices to millions of users around the world.

The developers decided to create a server for their site and successfully completed the plan. To do this, they assembled a cluster of 18 fourth-generation “raspberries” with a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor and 4 GB of RAM. The system passed the tests and was sent to commercial operation.

Well, we offer a server, the price of which (499 rubles per month) includes:

  • 1 shared public IP address
  • 24/7 support
  • Accommodation in a TIER III data center
  • Prompt replacement of faulty components

Rarity and Raspberry

We are talking about a modification of the “deceased” rare PC from France, created in the 1980s. This is a system called Minitel 1B. She was discovered during one of the garage sales. Unfortunately, the computer did not work, and it required scarce spare parts to fix it, plus a circuit diagram of this PC, which is difficult to get.

As a result, it was decided to recreate the system, replacing the old electronic filling with a new one, plus make the computer stand-alone by integrating a set of batteries. As a result, almost everything had to be changed, except for the case itself. Of course, even the screen had to be replaced, since the CRT consumes a huge amount of energy, and the screen did not work either.

As a result, it was replaced with a 10.4-inch LCD display. The keyboard is original, but in order for the system to accept and perceive it, it was necessary to add an Arduino Pro Micro. The computer can operate autonomously from a Li-Ion battery pack. The battery is recharged via a USB cable from an external source.

Raspberry Pi and Halloween

Since many children and adults love Halloween, modern technology makes it possible to make this holiday as vivid as possible, and, if I may say so, interactive. The Raspberry Pi is perfect for this purpose.

The project in question was developed by a group of teenagers – they are all from the same family. The development is not particularly difficult, but it is perfect for Halloween.

Everything you need to recreate the same pumpkins as in the video above – Raspberry Pi Pico, MAX7219 8×8 LED panels, RP2040. Oh yeah, a little more MicroPython code is needed.

Here – all the nuances and details of the creation of this project.

Artificial Intelligence Plays Flappy Bird

Well, this project is just for fun, it has no practical meaning. Just a system that can perfectly play the once hugely popular game Flappy Bird. The system developer uses it not for playing, but as if to decorate / decorate his own desktop.

The computer, however, sometimes makes mistakes. The minimum result shown by the AI based on the “raspberry” is 9000 points. The maximum is about 30,000. Try to dial that much manually …
