The “cheapest” electronic checkpoint in Russia controlled from a smartphone

Not so long ago I wrote a post about the “cheapest” turnstile in Russia at the moment.
Just in case, let me remind you that this is a turnstile tripod “RusGate” T3-NO-SF v.1 for 31,990 rubles, here is the most detailed article about this turnstile from all that have been written about turnstiles.

But the story is that the guys from RusGate released not only the cheapest turnstile tripod, they also released the cheapest turnstile right away with the built-in ACS controller in common people – the “electronic checkpoint”. They called it the "stand-alone walk-through RusGate T3-NO-SF v.2" for 44,000 rubles. And this is the only turnstile at the moment with the integrated ACS controller and immediately with the built-in Wi-Fi module and free software installed on the smartphone.

A turnstile with an integrated controller is most often used for a checkpoint, precisely because the ACS controller and contactless readers are already built into it, and it is ready out of the box to arrange access via contactless cards. That is, everything as you like – minimum installation, minimum settings, maximum results.

Next, we will consider turnstiles with integrated ACS controllers from all manufacturers selling their products in Russia, but we closely monitor this market, compare prices, and tell about our operating experience. And then, as we love, we will raise our hands and say that the choice is only for you to make.

But, before we start this, we need to decide a little on the terminology, since my beloved friends are marketers, and here they’ve got it so that you can get confused with the habit. The fact is that they do not like the simple and understandable term “turnstile with an integrated ACS controller”, so they came up with other terms that mean the same thing. Why are they doing this, as I am not trying to understand, I can’t.

The most famous of them is the “electronic walk-through” of the first, the St. Petersburg company “PERCo” began to use it massively. And it is thanks to them that the term has almost become a household word, therefore, for simplicity, in the first place, I will mainly use it.

  • Electronic PERCo through passage – 35 models

In addition to “PERCo”, the term “electronic walk-through” attracted a couple more manufacturers, and became even more common:

  • Carddex electronic walk-through – 4 models
  • Electronic walk-through "Oxgard" – 7 models

The second term “IP turnstile” is an example of a joint creative triumvirate of Rostov turnstile manufacturers, Nizhny Novgorod and Moscow marketers, from RostEuroStroy, Promavtomatika and Era of new technologies. Perhaps the only reason this term exists is because RostEuroStroy does not like PERCo, but this is not accurate.

  • IP-turnstiles "Rostov-Don" – 30 models

Apparently, having decided that God loves the trinity, the RusGate marketers finished off with the term “autonomous checkpoint” with the only model currently available.

In general, all this variety of terms means only one thing that has been added to the classic configuration of a conventional turnstile:

  • ACS controller
  • Readers

Also, almost always there is free software, sometimes decently cut from the full functionality, which is purchased for some money.
In general, turnstiles with integrated ACS controllers are quite different from each other, for example, by the type of built-in readers. It can be a turnstile with built-in classic proximity RFID readers, biometric readers, or barcode readers.

But the most popular at the moment are turnstiles with built-in RFID readers, firstly due to the inertia of the market, and secondly due to the price, since they are the cheapest.

Compare turnstile prices with integrated controllers

By the way, selling turnstiles with integrated ACS controllers is a great idea that simplified installation, as controller and readers are already installed. Therefore, from the moment of their appearance on the Russian market, they immediately began to enjoy well-deserved popularity. Which led to the fact that almost all manufacturers added them to their range.
In order to increase the objectivity of my little price research, I will compare using Yandex Market.

A small remark, rods do not always come with a turnstile with an integrated controller, such a little trick from manufacturers. She will not ride with us, although this will add to us hemorrhoids, we will indicate the price along with the bars.

  • Carddex electronic checkpoint – 40 654 rubles + rods 4 377 ₽ = 45 051 rubles
  • Electronic walk-through “Oxgard” – the price is from 64 628 rubles
  • Electronic PERCo walk-throughs – price from 69 862 rubles
  • Rostov-Don IP turnstiles – price from 58 305 rubles + slats 6 549 rubles = 64 854 rubles
  • Autonomous checkpoint RusGate T3-NO-SF v.2 – price 44 000 rubles

Now that I have set the price winner with surgical accuracy, let's take a closer look. Is it as good as it seems at first glance.

Autonomous checkpoint RusGate T3-NO-SF v.2

Price – 44 000 rubles

The main design features of RusGate T3-NO-SF v.2:

  1. Built-in ACS controller with autonomous memory for 1,500 users.
  2. Built-in readers for access cards of two EM-Marine standards.
  3. The ESP-01 Wi-Fi module based on the ESP8266 chip supports two modes of operation: Wi-Fi Direct (P2P) and Soft-AP.
  4. Two applications for installation on an android smartphone.

The stand-alone walk-through uses normally-open locking mechanisms. This means that the turnstile is constantly in the open state and in the case of authorized passage, the mechanism is not activated. The locking mechanism is only activated if an unauthorized passage is attempted, which greatly reduces the load on the mechanism, since most passes are authorized.

A damping device that ensures silent operation of the mechanism, and the rotation sensors of the barrier strips record the fact and direction of passage.

Included with the turnstile are 3 barrier bars “anti-panic”. That is, 3 bars of “anti-panic” are already included in 44,000 rubles. The trims are made of aluminum alloy AD31 with surface anodizing from a pipe with a diameter of 32 mm.

Turnstile management can be carried out:

  • Using a wired remote control (included)
  • Via Wi-Fi using the free Android application (included in the package)
  • Via Wi-Fi remote control (not included in the package, optional)

The first, and most important, is completeness. Typically, manufacturers do not include barrier arms in the kit and have to buy them separately. In this case, the anti-panic barriers are included.

Contents of delivery:

  • Built-in ACS controller – 1 piece
  • Built-in readers of the Em-marine standard – 2 pieces
  • Turnstile housing – 1 piece
  • The blocking block, with anti-panic function – 3 pieces
  • Wired control panel – 1 piece
  • Turnstile control board – 1 piece
  • Turnstile Management Software

What is not included in the delivery:

1) Em-Marine identifiers are not included in the package because it is unclear how many and which identifiers you specifically need. As a rule, choose from three options, which is more convenient for anyone, thin cards, thick cards or key rings.

  • Thick card Em-Marine StandProx – price 12 rubles
  • Thin card Em-Marine SlimProx – price 13 rubles
  • Trinkets of the Em-Marine format – price from 11 rubles

2) Step-down power supply by 12 volts.

  • Power supplies for 12 volts – price from 640 rubles

Turnstile control from an Android smartphone

But finally, the sweetest. Management and adjustment of the turnstile operating modes are possible with the help of applications for smartphones on the Android operating system. Applications have not yet been added to GooglePlay, and are available for download as a file with the apk extension.

Two applications are currently available:

  • Remote control (Download file with the apk extension)
  • Master Card (Download file with the apk extension)

Turnstile Remote Control Application

It is used exclusively as prescribed by the name, as a Wi-Fi turnstile remote control. Throw this link to the smart guard / watchman. Download, install, in general, everything is as simple as twice two. It works only on the android operating system.

The inscriptions “entrance” and “exit” can be set over any row of buttons depending on the location of the turnstile.

Although, of course, no one canceled the wired remote control from the delivery kit. A wired remote control is simpler, but only for those cases when the turnstile is adjacent to the place where the guard is located, it is this arrangement that saves us from having to stretch the wire to control the turnstile.

But, far from all situations, the turnstile can be positioned close to the guard, and in such situations the application installed on a smartphone and controlling the turnstile via Wi-Fi is a good way out, which eliminates the need for cable laying.

Before we move on to the second application, a little explanation on the difference in the designs of the two applications, the Remote Control application is made in a new design, which was recently revised. The “Master Card” application is still in the old, the update is promised by the manufacturer in the near future. But we decided not to wait for this moment and write this review, as the functionality will not change.

Master Card application

The main application for managing the turnstile is installed on the android smartphone. There are 5 sections in the application – Security, Modes, Internal database, Event recording, Indication and the main start screen for accessing them. You can download it here.

"Start screen"

The first thing to do is enter the IP address of the turnstile, the default is 192.168.4.1. Naturally, if you wish, you can change it.
We have finished the initial settings, let's see what else is interesting there.

Adding contactless cards to the controller memory

It is in the “Modes” section that contains the functionality that allows you to add cards to the controller’s memory. This is done by pressing one key in the modes section of the application "Master Card". Further, the cards to be added are simply brought in turn to the reader.

Section "Modes"

Adding contactless cards to the controller’s memory occurs precisely after pressing the “save to memory” button. Thus, the turnstile is transferred to the mode of saving cards to the controller’s memory.

At the same time, both pass indicators light up in green, and any card brought to the reader is written into memory, and at the same time you will hear a single sound signal.

If the card has already been recorded and you mistakenly re-present it, you will hear 2 beeps. It can be brought to any reader from two of the turnstiles installed in the case.

The “delete from memory” button, as the name implies, puts the turnstile in the card deletion mode. The indication switches to the “open in both directions” mode, and any presented card is deleted from the memory (at the same time, you will hear a single sound signal, if there is no card in the memory, then 2 sound signals).

The “passing +++” button is another way to add cards to the turnstile memory. In this mode, in which it opens on any card brought to the reader, and this card is automatically stored in memory. That is, you can simply distribute cards to all employees, switch to the “passing +++” mode for a week, and all cards will automatically be in memory. The danger of the regime is that someone especially dodgy can bring several cards for some personal purpose.

The “pass-through” button will enable the normal pass mode only for cards already entered in the memory of the turnstile controller. This is the main mode of operation of an automated checkpoint. Naturally, in this mode, the ability to control the turnstile from the remote control of both software and hardware will remain.

The ACS button will turn the turnstile into operation mode from an external non-integrated ACS controller. That, by the way, does not make much sense, for such cases it is better to take the RusGate T3-NO-SF v.1 turnstile-tripod for 31,990 rubles.

Security Section

A simple but important section, the default password is 12345678. It, of course, needs to be changed to a more complex one.

Section "Indication"

Another example of a simple section that allows you to adjust the color of the arrows of the indicators when opening and closing. By default, “red” is closed, “green” – passage is allowed. But as you already understood, you can change this, but still be careful with these games, since “red” – stand, “green” – go, a well-established combination.

By the way, this is exactly how we arranged this turnstile “stress testing” in our office, put the colors “red” at the entrance to the office – go, “green” – wait, they warned everyone, of course, but the habit is so strong that almost everything they always try to open it with the green color of the indicator, forcing the turnstile to work out an attempt of unauthorized passage, which is rather rare with standard operation. For the turnstile, stress testing was more successful than for our nerves, and within a couple of weeks our novice "legend breakers" themselves returned everything back.

Section "Internal base"

Allows you to perform group operations with a database of cards recorded in the turnstile. For example, you can not bring cards for recording one at a time, as described in the modes section.

Event Recording Section

Allows you to configure and record, and upload the types of events that interest us. A promising section that allows you to unload all events from the controller's memory. Those. if you wish, you can see who came and went so much. True, this is not done in the form of a convenient attendance report. And in the form of a simple log of events where instead of the last name of the employee to whom the card belongs, there will simply be a card number and the time of entry or exit. Which of course is not convenient. I hope this section will be finished at least to the level of simple formatted attendance reports. The event memory is 4000, it is also possible to transfer them to third-party devices.

Total

We have an unusual concept of turnstile control from smart that will undoubtedly find its client. Smartphones confidently displace computers for only one reason, it is more convenient, in many countries there are already entire generations of people for whom the first and only device to connect to the Internet was a smartphone.

Obviously, convenience will also be an advantage for the turnstile. The main application for managing the “Master Card” turnstile is much simpler than the computer software that all other manufacturers with their turnstiles offer.

RusGate’s obvious bet on simplicity and functionality, the turnstile with an integrated ACS controller and Wi-Fi module is getting closer to Plug and Play, the treasured grail of all turnstile manufacturers, to which they are slowly moving voluntarily or involuntarily.

  • If you need the most inexpensive automated checkpoint in Russia, or you, like I like the idea of controlling the turnstile from a smart, you go and take the turnstile for 44,000 rubles.
  • If you do not need the most inexpensive automated checkpoint, then you go to our website and choose from 133 models of checkpoints from 52 980 rubles to 714 090 rubles apiece.
