test and comparison with others

Batteries of a brand new for our country Power Flash appeared on the Russian market. I bought them, tested them and compared them with batteries from other brands.

The Russian company Compel, known to everyone involved in electronics, as one of the largest suppliers of electronic components,
arranged delivery from China, Power Flash batteries that were not previously sold in our country.

These batteries are made by a Chinese company. Shandong Huatai New Energy Battery Co., Ltd., which is one of the “large” Chinese battery manufacturers (600 million alkaline and 3 billion salt batteries per year). Alkaline batteries are produced on Canadian HIBAR lines, and the plant has 48 automatic production lines in total.

Compel brought three grades of batteries at once: Ultra Alkaline, Super Alkaline and Economy Alcaline (not to be confused with ECO-Alkaline!).

All batteries were manufactured in July 2022, Ultra Alkaline batteries have an expiration date of 07.2032 (10 years), Super Alkaline 07.2029 (7 years), Economy Alcaline 07.2027 (5 years).

I tested the batteries with a chemistry analyzer. Yarostanmash ASK2.5.10.8. To test the capacity and load capacity, two copies of the batteries were discharged in two modes:

– discharge with a current of 100 mA to 0.9 V. The test shows what maximum energy the battery can give;
– discharge up to 0.9 V with a resistance equivalent of 3.9 ohms for AA and 5.1 ohms for AAA. This test shows how batteries are suitable for powerful loads (toys with motors, blood pressure monitors and other medical equipment).

For clarity, I will compare these results with previously obtained test results for other popular batteries. The diagrams show a comparison in terms of delivered energy in mWh (average of two instances).

AA batteries. Blue columns – discharge with a current of 100 mA to 0.9 V, red columns – discharge with a resistance equivalent of 3.9 Ohm to 0.9 V.

When discharged with a current of 100 mA, Power Flash Ultra Alkaline AA and Power Flash Super Alkaline AA batteries provide 7% and 2% more energy than GP Super and “lag behind” the very expensive Duracell Ultra by 6% and 11%.
Power Flash Economy Alcaline AA are only 4% behind GP Super.

At a higher current, varying from 400 to 230 mA as it discharges (3.9 ohm equivalent), Power Flash Ultra Alkaline AA and Power Flash Super Alkaline AA lead the pack.

AAA batteries. Blue columns – discharge with a current of 100 mA to 0.9 V, red columns – discharge with a resistance equivalent of 5.1 Ohm to 0.9 V.

When discharged at 100 mA, Power Flash Ultra Alkaline AAA and Power Flash Super Alkaline AAA batteries deliver 6% and 5% more power than Duracell Ultra and only 1% and 3% behind GP Super.
Power Flash Economy Alcaline AAA are 18% behind GP Super.

At a higher current, which varies from 300 to 180 mA as it discharges (equivalent to 5.1 Ohm), Power Flash Ultra Alkaline AAA are on par with the leader (difference 1.1%), Power Flash Super Alkaline AAA provide less energy than GP Super by only 4%. Power Flash Economy Alcaline AAA are 20% behind GP Super.

I bought Power Flash batteries on Ozone and the price difference between Ultra, Super and Economy is very small. Now Power Flash AA and AAA batteries cost from 135 to 155 rubles for a pack of four. In such a situation, of course, it makes sense to buy Power Flash Ultra Alkaline, which has more energy than most batteries on the market.

PS All my battery tests are now on BatteryTest.com and on BatTest.ru.

Peace for everyone!
