The explosion of streaming services

The market is “seething” with a huge number of streaming services. Their number exceeds 200 units – this includes the giants Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney +, as well as highly targeted venues like F1 TV, broadcasting Formula 1 races. And new players continue to enter the market.

At the beginning of the year, the American telecommunications corporation Comcast announced streaming platform Peacock, and at the end of May the cable network HBO launched HBO Max.

All of these streaming services are striving to grab a piece of the pie and are waging a real war for viewers, spending huge sums on exclusive content. So, in 2020 HBO Max will spend $ 1.6 billion to produce the show, Disney + $ 1.75 billion, and Netflix a whopping $ 16 billion.

But the streaming wars did not have time to really begin – according to opinion Wired, they’ve only been running for two years – everyone’s tired of them. By data Deloitte, almost half of American viewers are annoyed by the ever-growing number of movie and TV show venues.

Why users are tired

Too much content… Along with the growing number of streaming sites, it becomes more difficult to keep track of all the news. Moreover, it is physically impossible to view them all. There are so many shows that special guides of their choice, and some viewers even come back to watching regular TV, since it is much easier to choose a program there.

Too many subscriptions… Many shows are tied to specific streaming sites, where they are exclusively distributed. To watch your favorite TV shows, you have to pay for a subscription on several platforms at once.

But content can disappear from the streaming service library if its license agreement with the copyright holder ends. For example, for this reason, the series “Doctor House” disappeared from Netflix – users even wrote petitions with requests to return it.

High pressure on the budget… A large number of subscriptions does not in the best way affect the thickness of the wallet – it can monthly “Lose weight” by $ 60-70… Allow yourself it not everyone can

Where is the market going

The current market for streaming services is highly fragmented, so experts predict that the popularity of aggregators will soon begin to grow. They combine the content of several sites under one interface. There are already pioneers – in May was launched ScreenHits TV, working with the most popular platforms.

What do you think, is there any point in such decisions, and whether it is necessary to fight “fatigue from streaming services” at all – we suggest discussing all this in the comments.
