SRAPS (secure redirect and setup service) how to easily manage your phone remotely

Good day to everyone who reads this article!

What you can use our SRAPS system for, we told you earlier in this article. Let’s see how you can do this. Today in front of you overview-instructions for connecting the device to the system and the use of its functionality. Let’s get started.

Registration in the system

Let’s start from the beginning, by registering in the system. To register, just go to link and fill in the fields of a simple form.

After checking your data, you will receive a confirmation of registration by mail, and you will be able to enter the system.

Establishment of the apparatus

To add a device to the system, you need to know its MAC address. You can see it:

  • on the box of the device;

  • on the device itself;

as well as in the web interface of the phone, if you do not have physical access to it. Knowing the MAC address, let’s go directly to the process of adding.

After logging in, we need to go to the section “Phones” and press the button Add

Here you need to specify the MAC address, select the company to which the configured device will be assigned, and select the configuration profile, if it has already been created earlier.

After pressing the button “Save”, we find ourselves in the configuration menu of our device.

Settings

Phone settings are presented on the right side of the display. Select the section in the right menu “SIP Account Credentials” and specify the parameters required for registration on the server.

Let’s specify the values we need for them and save the changes. When adding a value, we can choose how it will be applied to this unit. The parameter value may take precedence over the settings already on the machine. By specifying in the field “Resolution” option Read & Write we will forcibly replace the value of this parameter on the phone with the one specified in the system. If we need the parameters already entered on the phone to have priority, we must specify Read & Stay… Option “Only reading” will allow us to pull up the settings from the phone. Removing any parameter from the configuration template does not clear the value on the phone, it is worth remembering about this.

In addition, when adding SIP account parameters, you should pay attention to the field “Index” In this case, this is the number of a specific account. In order for all settings to refer to one account on the phone, make sure that the numbers in this field always correspond to the account number that you are currently setting up.

Here, when creating a preset, we can direct the machine to our own Autoprovision server… We use the only parameter from the settings section “Redirection” and indicate the server address we need. After that, the phone that contacted SRAPS will be sent for configuration files to the specified address. Since the server address is one of the settings in the configuration template, you can specify some of the configurable parameters here in SRAPS, and apply the rest from your own server using the configuration files, you just need to remember that for the device, the last received settings will have higher priority, in this case, the settings from your provision server

When the settings template is created in our system and linked to the device (this happens automatically if we create it when we add the phone to the system), we just have to reboot our device and the settings will be loaded from the template created earlier. Now we need to update the software of our device to the current version.

Software Update

Perhaps not the most obvious, but rather important, advantage of using SRAPS to update devices is that you do not need to have the firmware file itself on your PC to update. You just need to know the version number to which you want to update and enter it in the appropriate field, the system itself will select the file for the model of the device. As with phone setup, you need to restart your phone to update the software.

It is easy to say “Know the version number”, perhaps the reader is thinking at this point. So that there are no questions about the relevance of the versions, let’s figure out where and on what basis to check this very relevance. Let’s go to any search engine, type “snom service hub” and follow the first link. The page that opens is a resource with information on Snom devices and a directory of files for these devices. In this case, we are interested in the “Firmware” section, and we will go to it.

All software in this section is already “laid out” in the correct order, from newest to oldest. We strongly recommend that you use the latest software versions, so we need to copy the version name from the top line and indicate it in the corresponding SRAPS line.

In addition to specifying the software version, section “Default settings” It also allows you to customize the interface of the device. Do it with SRAPS much more convenient than using XML files for this. The system menu is designed for simple and understandable changes to the settings of any parameters of your phones.

Outcome

In this review, we examined the most frequently used actions performed with the device and saw how simple it is. The system is clear in operation, and we invite you to get acquainted with its functionality as soon as possible. Well, if you have any questions in the process – ask them, we will figure them out together.
