Snom D715 IP Phone Review

Hello dear readers. Today we bring to your attention a review of the next model of our equipment line: Snom D715 IP Phone.

To begin with, we want to offer you a short video review of this model so that you can view it from all sides.

Unpacking and packaging

We begin the review by considering the box in which the device and its contents are supplied. The box carries information about the model and the software version installed on the phone, the package includes:

  • Telephone set
  • Quick Start Guide
  • Stand
  • Category 5E Ethernet Cable
  • Handset and twisted cord to connect it

Design

Consider the phone case. The appearance of the device from our review is classic for Snom phones: the black case made of slightly rough, pleasant to the touch plastic encompasses the filling of the device.
In addition to this design, this unit can have a white body color, perfect for medical institutions and fits perfectly into the design of many offices.

Most of the phone’s interfaces are accessible from the back of the case, there are network interfaces, a connector for the power supply, headset and handset ports, and an EHS micro-lift connector. But the USB port has shifted to the side of the case, where access to it is very, very convenient. On the back side, in addition to the connectors, there are holes for wall mounting and mounting the phone stand.

On the front of the device is a screen, keyboard, speakerphone and recesses for the handset. The screen of this model is monochrome, elongated horizontally, despite not the largest resolution, it is perfectly enough to display all the information during the operation of the phone. The backlight is bright enough so that the display shows all the available labels in sunny weather, and not too dazzling in dim light.

Four contextual keys are placed under the screen, there is a control joystick in them, in the form of a four-position navigation button and a confirmation key to cancel the operation. Using this design to navigate the phone menu is convenient, the keys themselves have clear feedback, do not sink and do not fail.
Below is the dialer and BLF keys. The latter are made “the old fashioned way”, without a display, signatures for them are supposed to be applied manually, on a special paper insert. Often this is much easier than typing the name or organization name from the device’s keyboard, and taking into account not the largest number of keys on the phone – there are 5 of them here, this should not be a hassle for the user.

There is no rebound trigger in the upper recess of the tube, as with almost all current Snom models. Refusing the trigger reduces the number of mechanical parts of the phone, which means it increases the reliability of our device. For the user, such a feature may at first be somewhat unusual, but in the end it will turn into ease of use and awareness of the end call as a relic of the past.

Software and setup

In setting up an IP phone, there are a few highlights. First and foremost, in any case: account registration. Everything is relatively simple here, we fill in the fields according to the data provided by the provider or the PBX administrator.
We write in the “Account”, “Password” and “Server Address” the data we have, fill in the “Display Name” with your name or number and “Apply”, and then “Save” the settings. You can check your account registration status in the “System Information” section

The next point that is often needed is the setup of BLF and other function keys. Almost all function keys can be reconfigured on Snom devices, along with BLF they are in the corresponding menu. Most of the functionality is available for all keys, of course, with the exception of the indication of subscriber busy. The specifics of setting up this unit is that there is no need to specify a label for the BLF keys from the phone settings interface.

Function keys can be configured not only from the device’s web interface, but also via the on-screen menu. To do this, hold down the key that you want to configure for a few seconds and use the navigation keys to select the desired function. After making the settings, click “Save” and use the customized functionality.
In Snom phones, you can configure not only keys and accounts, but also change the appearance of the setup menu itself. You can change the colors of the interface, icons and fonts. We have already talked about how exactly this can be done and we invite you to get acquainted with material on this topic.

Functionality and operation

During operation, the phone is pleasant. The two-position stand allows you to position it on your desktop in a convenient way, the selected angles of 28 or 46 degrees provide a good overview to any person. Information is easily read from the screen. The keys of the dialer, due to their impressive size and high-quality performance, can be easily squeezed and at the same time you will never miss the right one.

Naturally, when using the phone you pay attention to the sound. The speakerphone reproduces the voice clearly and quite loudly. He will not be enough for the meeting room, but there is simply no chance to miss the words of the interlocutor at his workplace. The speaker volume is adjustable in a very wide range, allowing you to make the sound so that it does not interfere with your colleagues. The hands-free microphone captures the sound completely without adding deafness, as is often the case in such cases.

We monitor sound quality and achieve truly worthy sound from our devices using our own acoustic laboratory for this. Thanks to her, the microphone and speaker of the handset are also not satisfactory, the sound of the speaker is surround, all the intonations of the interlocutor are transmitted, you will always understand the subscriber “on the other side” correctly.

The display of the device is bright and clear, starting from the MWI indicator, which is located in the upper right corner of the device, continuing with the screen and ending with BLF keys. Usually, BLF keys use light indication only when using the BLF functionality directly, but we have added backlighting to other functions. This allows the user not to peer at the icons on the screen, but by the indication of the button itself to understand whether this function is active or not.

Accessories

As we mentioned earlier, the D7 expansion module is connected to the phone. The module allows you to significantly increase the already not the smallest number of programmable phone keys. The D7 module is very similar in design to the phone and very organically combined with it, harmoniously blending into the office environment.

In addition to the expansion module, you can connect DECT and WiFi USB adapters to the phone. The DECT A230 dongle allows you to connect a DECT headset or an external Snom C52 SP speaker to the telephone, providing high sound quality and long range thanks to the use of the DECT standard. The A210 Wi-Fi module is used to connect the phone to the organization’s WiFi networks operating in the 2.4 and 5 GHz frequency bands.

Summarize

We told you about the Snom D715 IP Phone. This is a convenient and pleasant to use device with the full functionality of a modern IP-phone. It will suit both ordinary employees and the heads of small divisions of the company and will serve as a loyal assistant in negotiations on any topic.
