Philips batteries are back in Russia

Philips batteries have appeared on the Russian market again, and there are four types of them. Of course, I tested these batteries.

As you know, for more than ten years now the Philips audio-video division has belonged to TP Vision, which also deals with batteries, which are now produced at one of the best Chinese factories – Mustang, which is honestly indicated on the packaging.

There are four grades of Philips AA and AAA batteries on sale: Alkaline, Power Alkaline, Ultra Alkaline, Premium Alkaline.

I tested all eight variants. The batteries were manufactured in November 2023 and have a shelf life of 10 years.

Using a chemical current source analyzer Yarostanmash ASK2.5.10.8. I tested two batteries in two modes:

— discharge with a current of 100 mA up to 0.9 V (the maximum energy that the battery can provide);
— discharge up to 0.9 V with a resistance equivalent of 3.9 Ohm for AA and 5.1 Ohm for AAA (emulation of battery operation with a powerful load, such as toys with motors, blood pressure monitors and other medical equipment).

The results were as follows.

Ultra and Premium AAA batteries showed almost identical results in both tests, however, they do have a difference – the internal resistance of Premium batteries is slightly lower, which means they will better withstand a greater load and will work longer when used in devices with high-current pulse consumption.

In the rating of my project BatteryTest.ru Philips Premium Alkaline AA batteries are currently in fifth place out of one hundred and fifty alkaline battery models sold in Russia. Philips AAA batteries are also in the top five.

The bulk of sales are made up of batteries in the basic segment, including Philips Ultra Alkaline and Philips Power Alkaline. AAA batteries of these grades showed outstanding results and took 4th and 5th places in the Batterytest rating. AA batteries are in the TOP-30 of the rating and are ahead of many models in capacity and load capacity, including those of departed brands (Duracell, Energizer, Varta).

Philips Alkaline, although they belong to the economy segment, have a higher capacity and load capacity than many popular batteries. And of course, they are significantly ahead in capacity of “alkaline batteries of reduced capacity”, of which there are now, unfortunately, more and more on the Russian market.

Today Philips is one of the few recognizable global brands whose batteries are officially presented on the Russian market. Alkaline batteries Philips are a full replacement for batteries of departed brands.
