Number of PMI-certified specialists in the CIS in 2021

Six months ago, I came up with the idea to collect statistics on the CIS. What has changed during this time?

For example, Belarus and Ukraine together lost 1 certificate more than Kazakhstan received, Turkmenistan lost the only certified PMI specialists, and in total in the CIS there were 176 more certificates. Let’s see in more detail?

And at the end of the bonus – data on IPMA and PM-Standard.

The article uses data as of 07/03/2021 as an indicator for the first half of 2021 and data as of 01/10/2022 for 2021 in its entirety.

And traditionally, let’s start by comparing certificates by number for six months:

Number of certificates from the CIS, mid-2021 and end of 2021
Number of certificates from the CIS, mid-2021 and end of 2021

And in general, we have a positive trend, from which two certifications are negatively knocked out – DASM and DASSM. It seemed that certification appeared not so long ago, but already losses?

And this is logical – after all, their validity is only a year. Someone decided not to renew or simply did not have time.

Micro Certifications have seen the biggest growth with AH_MC (Agile Hybrid PM) and OTF (Organizational Transformation Foundation). It’s just that no one has received them in the first half of the year.

Among the main certifications, a significant increase in rare ones – PfMP, PgMP, PMI-PBA, PMI-RMP. The situation is related to their number and significant influence of even a small number of certified specialists.

What has changed by country?

Number of certificates by country, first half of 2021 and end of 2021

With a high probability, part of the small “outflow” is due to the fact that the certificates could go into suspend (the certificate has not yet been renewed). Some more part could be related to relocation, but I’m not sure that many people update the data.

What has changed in the pictures:

Changes in PMI certifications for six months, excluding the most popular
Changes in PMI certifications for six months, excluding the most popular
Half year change in the number of most popular PMI certifications
Half year change in the number of most popular PMI certifications

So, a total of 4033 people in the CIS and 4397 certificates.

If we correlate people and certificates:

1 certificate – 3736 people;

2 certificates – 250 people;

3 certificates – 35 people;

4 certificates – 7 people;

5 certificates – 2 people;

6 certificates – 3 people.

Here it is worth recognizing a possible error in the data of the last half of the year – there may have been “lost” people with 6 certificates, and they fell into the category of owners of 5 certificates. This is due to the specifics of issuing data on the site. PMIwhich I only found out about this year.

How is it distributed among the certificates?

Number of certificates per person by PMI certifications, 2021 results

Speaking about people with the largest number of certificates, I traditionally mention them in a separate table. And an important caveat – I exclude “Microcertifications” from the list, but leave Disciplined Agile:

The most PMI-certified specialists in the CIS, results of 2021
The most PMI-certified specialists in the CIS, results of 2021

3 certificates and more is really a lot, this is the work of these people.

In the CIS, 3 people have 6 certificates each, and one has 5 (this does not include microcertifications).

This:

Fakhranda Yusubova, PMP, CAPM, PMI-ACP, PMI-RMP, PMI-PBA,

Seyed Ali Fallahpour, PMP, PfMP, PMI-ACP, PMI-RMP, PMI-SP, PMI-PBA,

Mikhail Belov, PMP, PgMP, PfMP, PMI-ACP, PMI-RMP, PMI-SP (at the time of publication of the article also DASSMbut this was later than the time of data collection),

Artur Feoktystov, PMP, PgMP, PMI-ACP, PMI-RMP, PMI-SP, PMI-PBA.

And five members of the so-called “club 3R (PMP, PgMP, PfMP)” are Anton A. Subchev, Danil Dintsis, Maksim Sonin, Mikhail Belov, Oleksandr Liubimov.

The distribution of certificates by country is as follows:

Distribution of PMI certificates by CIS countries
Distribution of PMI certificates by CIS countries

And unexpectedly, but the rarest certification is not the most difficult or demanding for experience, but the most understandable, among all DA certifications – DASM. Of the classic certifications, the most rare is PMI-SPalthough in the first half she shared this place next to PfMP.

The conclusions for me remain the same. Citizens of Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan are more responsible for their professional development (and even if we look better in absolute numbers, this is not an indicator).

This time I did not count the comparison of certified figures with the population, but the tradition of adding something interesting should be observed, in my opinion. Therefore, I decided to add IPMA and PM-Standard certification statistics for the Russian Federation.

IPMA certification statistics (Sovnet) in the Russian Federation, as of the end of 2021
IPMA certification statistics (Sovnet) in the Russian Federation, as of the end of 2021

What do you want to pay attention to?

Until 2010 IPMA D was indefinite.

PM-Standard, certification statistics in the Russian Federation, as of the end of 2021
PM-Standard, certification statistics in the Russian Federation, as of the end of 2021

The numbers look solid, but do not forget that Basic is just an acquaintance (albeit a tight one) with GOST ISO standards.
