No lags or stutters. 5 portable gaming consoles you may not know about

Game consoles, especially portable ones, have long been an integral part of gamers' lives. And we're not just talking about such well-known consoles as ASUS, Sony, and Nintendo. Less recognizable companies offer many more models — and they, too, deserve players' attention. A few examples of these are below.

AYANEO Pocket DMG

This is a portable system that doesn't look much like other gaming devices. It has modern hardware, including a high-resolution OLED display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 processor. The controls include a D-pad, buttons, and an analog joystick.

The cost of the device is not yet advertised, but the manufacturer will announce the price soon. The specifications are now as follows:

  • display: 3.92 inches, resolution 1240 × 1080 pixels (419 ppi), OLED;

  • CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 (8 Kryo CPU cores, Adreno A32 graphics);

More is known about this console than the previous one. It is a productive device with a Ryzen 7 8840U processor. In addition, it has a 10.95-inch display. The resolution is 2,560 × 1,600 pixels.

Like the Nintendo Switch, the console has detachable controllers. As for the processor, it has 8 Zen 4 CPU cores, Radeon 780M 12-core RDNA 3 graphics, and a 16 TOPS NPU.

The console is quite expensive — $989 for a model with 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. But it is worth the money, because the hardware is modern and productive. You can play most new games without any lags or freezes.

The LPDDR5-7500 memory is soldered to the board, but the solid-state drive can be upgraded if necessary. The console has an M.2 2280 slot. You can also connect an external ONEXGPU graphics unit with an AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT GPU to the device – then the console will turn into a productive device that can handle the most modern games.

The device works for up to 4 hours on a full battery charge. Another positive point is that the console charges 50% in half an hour thanks to the fast charging function.

The detachable controllers have RGB backlighting, Hall sensors, and several buttons that can be reassigned. The console measures 252 x 163 x 13 mm. The weight of the device is 125 grams.

Anbernic RG Cube

The system's developers claim that it can handle most modern Android games and can run PlayStation 2, Nintendo Wii and GameCube emulators.

The device's battery will last for seven hours of play, which is quite good. The controls are visible in the photo – there is the usual D-pad, analog controllers, additional buttons. The console has a touch screen.

The price and release date of the device are still unknown.

ADATA XPG Nia

One of the most powerful gaming devices in the selection, which allows you to run the most modern games. In fact, this is a miniature and very productive mini-PC, and not just a game console. The developers took care to make their device customizable and easily upgradeable. For example, here you can upgrade not only the solid-state drive, but also the RAM.

By the time the XPG Nia is ready to ship, ADATA plans to release 3D design files and pinout information, allowing customers to create their own 3D printed cases and other accessories.

ADATA is still working on the configuration and specifications of the XPG Nia and hasn't decided yet, for example, whether it will ship with an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme, Ryzen 7 7840U, Ryzen 7 8840U, or a next-gen chip.
