New search in Telegram

Today Pavel Durov announced about changes in how search works and admitted that spammers have indeed begun to abuse the system when channels with a large number of subscribers are higher in the search results.

“Therefore, now we take into account only real channel subscribers when ranking,” said the head of Telegram.

Now priority is given to results from the user’s country. Also, for example, channels with a large number of Premium subscribers, “usually rank higher“:

“However, if a given Premium subscriber subscribes to too many channels, it will not give them as much of a boost in search rankings“, Durov explained.

The head of Telegram also added that reviews of this change are overwhelmingly positive.
