more than you can imagine

The Raspberry Pi single board can and is used in a wide variety of projects, both simple and highly complex. V

previous collection

we have shown interesting ideas implemented on the basis of this board.

But there are much more projects than can fit in one collection, so we decided to do the second part. Most of these projects are great because they can be repeated. Well, if you don’t want to repeat it, if you have your own project based on “raspberry” – write in the comments, we will discuss. For now, let’s take a look at what the enthusiasts have to offer.

Mini pupper

Boston Dynamics is a company that has established itself in the creation of very unusual AI-based robotic systems that could well be called the future of robotics. As it turns out, the Raspberry Pi can be used to build something like this. Not as perfect as Boston Dynamics, but no less interesting.

Recently on Kickstarter a project was presented to create a robotic dog that is controlled using a Raspberry Pi 4. Mini Pupper, as the project is called, is small in size, but this robot is capable of performing a wide range of operations – they are limited only by the imagination of the developers.

For this system, you can create your own scenarios of behavior, fortunately, the robot has as many as 12 degrees of freedom. The creators of the project said that this is enough to repeat most of the animal’s movements. The robot has a camera and even a lidar for orientation in space.

Mini Pupper is also an educational system – the creators of the robot have developed a whole online course for users. The project is already successful – it raised about 20 times more funds on Kickstarter than it took to get started. So in the near future we can expect the appearance of miniature robotic “dogs” on sale.

E-ink calendar

A lot of projects of calendars and organizers, both very simple and quite complex, were presented. One of them –

Raspberry Pi E-Ink calendar

… It is a portable system that syncs with the user’s Google calendar. The system is running on battery power. So it is enough for several days of battery life.

Not just any battery can be used – this project uses the PiSugar2, which is designed exclusively for the Raspberry Pi Zero. The battery is connected via GPIO. There is also its own RTC module, which makes it possible to program the device to turn on at a specific time. Information from Google is displayed on a 12.5-inch E-ink display.

The project is based on a specialized Python script that regularly updates the system. Since the screen of the device is E-ink, the information is displayed even when the single board is turned off to save energy. The offline calendar mode is about a month. In order to monitor the charge level, a small battery icon is displayed in the upper corner of the system.

Raspberry Pi Delivery Robot

A robotic courier based on “raspberry” can relatively quickly deliver cargo from point A to point B. And all this thanks to the creators of the project

Droiid

, the basis of which is the same “raspberry”.

You can control this device together – for example, in streams. After all, everything becomes much more interesting if you use YouTube or Twitch, right? And any user can send commands, if the administrator has provided such an opportunity.

Well, the Pi Cam module makes it possible to observe the whole process as if from the side.

The system is based on a 4GB Raspberry Pi 4 plus Arduino Uno and Arduino Mega are used to handle chat input and control wheel drives. Droiid is designed to use 6 wheels instead of the typical four-wheel design found in many robotic vehicles. The chassis was designed from the ground up by Kuao and 3D printed on the Ender 5 Pro.

Commercial server

There are many raspberry-based DIY server projects. Well, we have developed a commercial proposal based on the Raspberry Pi 4B. By the way, we are not alone in this – the first was the Raspberry Pi Foundation itself, which supplies its single-board devices to millions of users around the world.

The developers decided to create a server for their site and successfully completed the plan. To do this, they assembled a cluster of 18 fourth-generation “raspberries” with a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor and 4 GB of RAM. The system passed the tests and was sent to commercial operation.

Well, we offer a server, the cost of which (499 rubles per month) includes:

  • 1 shared public IP address
  • 24/7 support
  • Accommodation in a TIER III data center
  • Prompt replacement of faulty components

Raspberry Pi Cyberdeck

And this is our cyberpunk

straight from 1977

… A computer from the 20th century, created in the 21st century. The point is that it was created in the image and likeness of its “colleagues” at the end of the last century. The system was created by the Bongoplayingmonkey team. The system is based on a Sanyo turntable. It is thanks to him, the device of the late 1970s, that the project retains the spirit of the gadgets of the end of the last century.

At the same time, the device is equipped with a two-line LCD display and a mechanical keyboard AJAZZ AK33. Inside the case is a Raspberry Pi 4, a Geekworm x708 UPS and a few batteries. In addition, there is an unusual control of the entire system, connected via Arduino.

There is also a relatively modern screen that emphasizes the modernity of the solution. It makes it possible to display any information relevant to the user.

Raspberry Pi Pico Light

Well, here we have an entertainment rather than a practical system called the Raspberry Pi Pico Light. Lighting systems have always been popular. And the “raspberry” makes it possible to create a futuristic system that is capable of shimmering with much more colors than the same rainbow.

Actually, there is nothing particularly difficult here – just light modules, a Raspberry Pi Pico and a little Pyton. In terms of lighting, the 4×4 Neopixel Matrix system was used here. The system has a button for color and brightness control. And there is also a LiPo battery for battery life.
