MINISFORUM TL50 – Miniature PC with Intel Tiger Lake, Iris Xe Graphics and Thunderbolt 4

MINISFORUM recently released a new miniature PC that, despite its small size, provides good performance. Interest in this system is primarily a Tiger Lake processor with Iris Xe graphics.

In addition to this inside there is fast DDR4-3200 RAM with low power consumption, PCIe 4.0 bus, and Thunderbolt 4.0 interface. Notably, MINISFORUM was the first company to install the new Thunderbolt in its computer. In general, it turned out to be an interesting device. Details are under the cut.

Characteristics

You shouldn’t expect crazy performance from this miniature PC, but it can handle most everyday tasks. Inside he has:

  • Processor: Quad-core Intel Core i5 1135G7 with a maximum clock speed of 4.2 GHz.
  • Video: Intel Iris Xe Graphics 1.3 GHz.
  • RAM: LPDDR4 12 GB, 3200 MHz.
  • Memory: M.2 512GB SSD, there is a SATA interface for connecting a hard drive.
  • Wireless: Supports M.2 2230 Wi-Fi (dual-channel Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth).
  • Ports: HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort (8K @ 60Hz), USB-C (Thunderbolt 4), 3.5-inch audio jack, Gigabit Ethernet, 2 USB 2.0 ports and one USB 3.0.
  • Power supply: 19V.
  • OS: Windows 10 Home.

An important point: it seems like a lot of RAM, still 12 GB, not 4 or 8. But the memory is soldered on the board, there are no additional slots, so you won’t be able to upgrade the system. In general, 12 GB is enough for most users. Still, this is not a gaming PC, and it is not 100% suitable for working with very heavy video files (although the video editor is open in one of the photos). But development, where there is no serious workload, office work and many other areas of application are quite suitable – the miniature MINISFORUM TL50 will definitely cope with all this.

The system demonstrates good performance, since in addition to 12 GB of RAM, there is also a solid-state drive, and a fairly large volume.

The rest of the device can be called quite standard, with its M.2 slot for installing a wireless communication module, video outputs and USB ports.

By the way, if you want to purchase the system right now, then most likely nothing will come of it: at the time of this writing, the minicomputer has been released so far only in the land of the rising sun. Accordingly, it is available only to residents of Japan. Some kind of crowdfunding was launched, which in fact is just a competent marketing company with the ability to pre-order.

According to rumors, the brand will soon release a more powerful system with DDR4 3733 MHz, PCIe NVMe from Kingston and the transition to Wi-Fi 6.
