In recent years, Gates, whose fortune is approximately $ 113 billion (the second richest person in the world), has been more involved in charity. Together with his wife, back in 2000, he founded the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which finances such projects – its volume exceeds $ 45 billion.

In addition, the fund has a trust that is used for investment – the fund does not only spend money. According to the data report, which was filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the fund’s investment portfolio in the first quarter of 2020 amounted to $ 17.35 billion.

5. Caterpillar

The world’s leading manufacturer of construction, transport and power equipment. The Gates Fund has been investing in Caterpillar for 15 years and now holds 11.26 million shares of the company.

6. Crown Castle International

In turn, this company is the largest supplier of wireless equipment in the United States. The Bill & Melinda Foundation portfolio contains 5.33 million of its shares.

7. Ecolab

A supplier of detergents and disinfectants whose products are primarily used in food service, hospitality, healthcare, retail and education. In recent months, the value of Ecolab securities has risen, now the Gates fund owns 4.36 million shares.

8. United Parcel Service

UPS is one of the world’s largest express document and package delivery companies. In the Gates portfolio, the share of this asset is 2.44%, which is equal to approximately 4.5 million shares.

9. FedEx

Another logistics business. Like UPS, FedEx delivers goods and mail around the world.

10. Schrodinger

This company is developing sophisticated software that helps in the creation of new drugs. Schrodinger went public only in February 2020. Almost immediately, the Gates Foundation acquired 7 million of its shares, which exceeded 11% of the total.
