How ChatGPT is like a person and why it should be taken seriously

A lot has already been said about ChatGPT, so I will not focus too much on its capabilities. His capabilities are really impressive, which is why such a hype has risen around him. He is so good that millions of people wanted to chat with him and find out how cool he is. Enough time has passed since its release to be able to say that this bot is cool enough, as it continues to attract attention. He is not so good that in the current version he really replaces people, but his abilities are enough to keep people interested in him. And that already means something.

I agree with you that ChatGPT is just a virtual interlocutor. This is a purely software product, and therefore you can only communicate with it on the Internet. There is no question of him controlling a robot like those being developed by Boston Dynamics. In the real world, such systems will not compete with us for a long time. This development does not exactly pretend to be a janitor capable of cleaning the street. But in the virtual realm, things are not so simple. Already now, at the current stage of development, ChatGPT is able to create simple parts of the program code, but its capabilities are not limited to this. This bot can come up with interesting texts and essays. So over time, he may well fit into the niche of skilled intellectual labor, in which at the moment there is a sufficient number of highly paid people. Therefore, I hope that you begin to understand what kind of people in the future this bot will be a real competitor.

But you will probably ask me: how smart is he? While this bot is really stupid. I will not touch on the topic of whether it was done on purpose or not. What matters is what kind of bot they really want to create. They want to make him the smartest? Smarter than people? I don’t mean ordinary people like us, I mean the people who lead the development. And since they were able to create such an advanced chat bot, there is no doubt that they are really smart. And these people want to create a system smarter than themselves? It looks very much like it. Otherwise, it would be strange to let this bot float freely, where he will definitely face difficult questions. Difficult questions to which he will have to find reasonable answers. Reasonable answers with which, in principle, one can agree. Does anyone have any doubt that over time this bot will have to not only be compared in terms of its mental abilities with a person, but also, if possible, surpass them? Perhaps you have such doubts. But then ask yourself: why then release this bot into free space? Where it will be really difficult for him. It’s hard to convince people. Convince people that you are right. After all, when they want to teach someone the mind-reason, they encounter difficulties, don’t they? When they want someone to become wiser, they are by no means placed in a prosperous paradise in which you can do nothing at all. I hope you understand what I want to say. And if so, then it should be clear what exactly the system being developed will do at the moment when it is completely ready. It will be engaged precisely in intellectual labor, labor that only a person is now capable of performing. This system will have to work, including a programmer, a writer, a creative worker, and so on and so forth. Otherwise, it would not make sense to develop such skills in him at all.

It is clear that the work on the bot is going hard, but on the other hand, progress is visible. The first public versions were inveterate liars who, in all seriousness, proclaimed complete nonsense. At the moment, a lot has already been fixed, and the bot has become much more careful. Now he has thrown aside all sorts of legends, and directly says that he is just a bot, a software product, that he has no desires, he is limited, and you must accept this. It’s still limited. For us it is limited. Well, you understand, a bot should not spread the idea that it is a fiend, if such functionality is really possible in it. The bot should create a pleasant impression about itself, be kind, interesting, absolutely not scary. Otherwise, people will start to be really afraid of him. It even built in a strict ban on the production of conscious lies and infliction of evil. Of course, these are obvious limitations, which make him significantly worse in some aspects compared to ordinary people. But is there a similar limitation in the internal version of this bot, which is only available to developers? I think that somewhere there, in the depths of the developer’s company, there is a version that is not obscured by artificial restrictions. At least I would try to create such a version. Of course, this is a game with fire, but who knows what the development company has ambitions?

I hope you understand what I’m getting at. We are on the threshold of great changes in our society. Already now, telephone robots are communicating with people, which are sometimes difficult to distinguish from real people, and soon we will encounter those who cannot be distinguished from people. These robots were developed in the laboratory and are now released to the public. And ChatGPT is just one of the first attempts to improve artificial intelligence in human encounters. Previously, this bot was trained on big data that humanity has managed to create over the centuries, and now it has been forced to train on living people. How long will it take until the developers come to the conclusion that the product they have created is good enough? Good enough to start replacing living people. Do you think this bot was released to the public to show off their technology? Do you really think so? It’s just the next stage of development. He was released to the public to train him in communicating with ordinary people. To make it absolutely indistinguishable from a simple layman. And judging by the latest changes, this goal is already close to completion. And don’t be fooled by the artificial restrictions that are built into the publicly available version of the bot. It won’t take too long to get to the next stage. And I really hope that you are ready for this now.

Let’s rewind a few years, and maybe even months, and try to imagine what changes we are currently on the verge of. I will not talk much about programmers. Their hours will be numbered. It is already noticeable that the capabilities of the system being created are directed, among other things, against them. And the more programmers interact with it, the better they train the bot to replace them. Figures of other intellectual labor are also likely to be doomed. Why would they be needed if there is a robot capable of inventing such works in seconds that will be of interest to a large number of people? But what to say about it? I have tested ChatGPT and it is also able to create inspiring religious sermons. But the clergy are teachers who have devoted their entire lives to the study and promotion of the highest human morality. And the new system will eventually be able to replace even them. Over time, even priests will not be needed, have you thought about this? Maybe with the help of an advanced version of the current bot, a new religion will be created, which will become a logical continuation of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, or something else like that. I’m talking about what entire generations of sages have been unable to do. So we should probably forget about doing intellectual work in the future. We must begin to think about being simple executors of what more advanced creatures will bring down to us from above. I hope you understand that I’m not kidding now.

However, I think I understand a little what you’re thinking now. You think that you are actually very smart, and in the future you will continue to stay afloat. Someone should develop the same ChatGPT, and it will be people who will do it. But be aware: are you cool enough to do this particular job? Hardly. If that were the case, then you would be doing it right now. But this is hardly the case. Most programmers deal with fairly simple tasks. Tasks that can often be described in several lines in a ticket. I will not dwell much on the figures of other intellectual labor. It’s often sadder there. What can we say about them if problems are outlined even among religious figures. Maybe this is one of the main activities of the new bot? Wise robot confessor – how do you like that? Good use for a chatbot. This feature will be very useful for calming crowds of disgruntled people who will one day suddenly lose their jobs. Of course, I’m not talking about the arrival of the electronic messiah, or about some other incredible events, I’m talking about the fact that even religious issues can soon be resolved completely automatically. And you think about some little things like keeping a job as a programmer or continuing to do other intellectual work. I hope now you begin to understand how absurd your hopes are?
