GP batteries have changed their design and become more capacious

Newly designed GP Super batteries are starting to appear on the market. I tested these batteries and found that it's not just the look that has changed.

In fact, GP became the only major international brand remaining on the Russian market after the departure of Western brands (Duracell, Energizer, Varta).

GP Super batteries are among the most popular on the Russian market, so, unfortunately, they are counterfeited more often than others. Counterfeit batteries can be found both in markets and small stores, and on marketplaces. I note that GP batteries are also sold on marketplaces by the official supplier, OOO A Zet, which definitely has original batteries (the name of this company is on any GP battery packaging).

To make the batteries much harder to counterfeit, GP changed the design. Now the batteries have a complex gradient (smooth transition from green to silver) with waves. Most cheap battery factories will not be able to cope with such printing.

Another difference is the G-Tech technology, which includes all the latest innovations: improved leak protection (additional nylon ring and anti-corrosion treatment of the body), a larger volume of chemically active components, a special shape of the graphite cathode, and an improved composition of the anode paste.

I tested GP Super G-Tech AA and AAA batteries manufactured in March 2024. The batteries have a shelf life of 10 years.

The tests were carried out using a chemical current source analyzer. Yarostanmash ASK2.5.10.8.

Two batteries were discharged in two modes:

— discharge with a current of 100 mA up to 0.9 V (the maximum energy that the battery can provide);
— discharge up to 0.9 V with a resistance equivalent of 3.9 Ohm for AA and 5.1 Ohm for AAA (emulation of battery operation with a powerful load, such as toys with motors, blood pressure monitors and other medical equipment).

The results of my test:

I compared the new GP Super G-Tech with the regular GP Super released in November 2023. The charts show the average capacity in mWh. Blue bars are 100mA discharge to 0.9V (maximum battery capacity measurement mode), red bars are 3.9/5.1 Ohm equivalent discharge to 0.9V (heavy load mode, such as motorized toys).

The biggest difference was seen with AAA batteries: GP Super G-Tech batteries provided 10% more energy in the second test (heavy load mode) than regular GP Super batteries.

New GP Super G-Tech batteries have already started appearing in stores and should completely replace the old ones by the New Year.

In addition to the “people’s” GP Super, GP Ultra G-Tech and GP Ultra Plus G-Tech batteries in cardboard boxes have appeared.

In the rating of my Batterytest project, GP Ultra+ G-Tech AAA batteries currently occupy first place among all alkaline batteries, ahead of 128 other battery models. GP Ultra+ G-Tech AA are among the top five alkaline batteries currently sold in Russia.

You can compare new GP G-Tech batteries with others on the BatteryTest.ru website.
