Gigacell Super Alkaline Battery Test

Gigacell batteries have appeared on sale on Russian marketplaces. Interestingly, this is not another Russian brand, but the own brand of the Chinese battery factory of the same name.

I bought these batteries and tested them.

Batteries are sold in cardboard boxes of 10 or 20 pieces. Inside the boxes, the batteries are sealed in pairs in transparent shrink film.

The manufacturer is listed on the back of the box as Ningbo Gigacell Electronics. This plant has been producing batteries for 20 years, it is equipped with 12 high-speed production lines. The importer is Melius LLC, it is the one that sells these batteries on the marketplace.

The batteries I tested were manufactured in January 2024 and have a shelf life of 5 years.

Using a chemical current source analyzer Yarostanmash ASK2.5.10.8. I tested two batteries in two modes:

— discharge with a current of 100 mA up to 0.9 V (the maximum energy that the battery can provide);
— discharge up to 0.9 V with a resistance equivalent of 3.9 Ohm for AA and 5.1 Ohm for AAA (emulation of battery operation with a powerful load, such as toys with motors, blood pressure monitors and other medical equipment).

The results were as follows.

In the rating of my BatteryTest project, Gigacell Super Alkaline AA batteries received 86 points, Gigacell Super Alkaline AAA 82 points. In fact, this means that they differ in capacity from the most expensive and capacious batteries by only 14% and 18%.

These batteries are ahead of many well-known batteries in capacity, including batteries of departed brands (Duracell, Energizer, Varta). You can compare them with others on the website BatteryTest.ru.

I bought these batteries on Ozon. Now a pack of 20 Gigacell Super Alkaline batteries costs 458 rubles there (~23 rubles per battery). This is significantly cheaper than the batteries sold at the checkout counters in stores, and in most cases these batteries are also more capacious.
