Five films about IT at the Doker festival

From September 5 to 15, the tenth international documentary film festival “Docker” Since 2016, LANIT has supported it and, together with the organizing committee, holds the world's only competition for films about information technologies – “Let IT do it!“.

This year, the Let IT dok! program features five bright and original IT films. Documentary filmmakers continue to observe how the world around us is changing and to catch the accents in the changes in order to understand how to adapt to them in the future. In this article, we will tell you more about each Let IT dok! finalist film.

“Let IT Dok!” program 2024

  1. This is life

Director: Hong Sun.

China, 2023, 81 min.

Russian premiere.

A documentary made from user-generated videos. The film shows the daily lives of Chinese people: what they wear, eat, where they live, and how they migrate. The film covers the lives of people in major cities, counties, and villages, presenting an unvarnished China.

  1. People's hero

Director: Vladimir Golovnev.

Russia, 2024, 78 min.

Moscow premiere.

Ethnobloggers from the peoples of Russia – a Yakut hunter, a Khanty reindeer herder and a Dagestani shepherd – share their daily lives on camera. Their stories become known to the whole world, showing how new technologies are changing traditional ways of life.

  1. In Search of a Stranger

Director: Andrea Gatopoulos.

Italy, USA, 2023, 90 min.

Russian premiere.

The last 30 years of David Rumsey's life, devoted to collecting historical maps, seem like a continuous quest. The film follows his cartographic journey, in which he periodically encounters ghosts of the past.

  1. My friend Sega

Director: Artem Gryanik.

Russia, 2024, 93 min.

Moscow premiere.

The protagonist, who lost his leg, becomes a symbol of the modern dream of fame on social media. But despite the flow of content and love from subscribers, he feels empty until he finds new meaning in life through suffering.

  1. Satoshi: The Mysterious Disappearance of Bitcoin's Creator

Director: Paul Kemp.

Canada, 2023, 75 min.

Russian premiere.

On January 3, 2009, Satoshi Nakamoto launched Bitcoin, but 26 months later he disappeared with over a million bitcoins. His fortune reached $70 billion, but not a single coin was spent. The film explores the reasons for Satoshi's disappearance and the global impact of his invention.

Screenings of IT films will take place from September 6 to 14, while Docker itself will last longer – from September 5 to 15 (you can see the full festival program here by link). You will be able to see the films first at the Oktyabr cinema at 24 Novy Arbat.
