DIY Pixel Poi or Pixel Poi

In this publication, we will talk about testing the APA102 high density LED strip, in conjunction with the WeAct module. Black Pill V3.0 (MiniF4 V3.0) or “Black Pill” with AliExpress as a pixel poi controller. Pixel poi are light props based on controllable LEDs, which, when rotated, can display a variety of pictures, effects, inscriptions, etc.

This is the second part of the publication with a demonstration of the results of the POI controller on real hardware. The first, theoretical part is the part on assembling the controller and preparing content: https://habr.com/en/post/722980/

So, we are testing a digital LED strip APA102 2020 6Adensity 200 LED/meter.

The price of such a tape on AliExpress is about $50 per coil, 1 meter / 200 LEDs.

For fastening the LED strip I use a wooden rail.

The content for the POI controller was prepared in the Corona POI creator software.

It was very interesting for me how smart chip production technologies have grown. As a result, we have a fairly clear, cinematic picture quality using LED strip based on smart chips. APA102 2020 6A. The content transfer rate was: 200 pix * 4 (byte) * 2500 (lines / sec) = 2 MB / sec, or 16 Megabit / sec. POI controller copes with traffic without lags and friezes due to the integrated DMA controller. High PWM on LED chips also provided the necessary dynamic rendering. Also, you can see the result of the gamma correction integrated into the LED chips – the color palette displays midtones and shades quite well.
