Developers dzen.ru, what's wrong with you?

I pierced all the icons, there was no code formatting. At first I couldn't imagine it. I double-checked it again. At first I thought I was just stupid. Therefore, I double-checked it again and started searching, perhaps there are buttons that open the code editing interface. Flashbacks from full stack development came back to me and I pressed F12. I started looking for hidden elements. I could not even imagine for a moment that such functionality simply did not exist.

But I didn't give up. Not finding the treasured button. I thought that I was not stupid, but very stupid. So I went to Google and found out how to format the code in Zen. Google provides a link to the answers. I go in and read. Zen doesn't know how to format code, but there is a solution via gist. We create a public link and Zen picks up the formatting. Well, I think okay. At least that way.

I copy the code again and create a link.

I'm putting the link in the Zen editor. And… miss

I'm starting to experience impostor syndrome. I'm starting to wonder what I've been doing all these years in IT. It's possible that he just kicked something. And kicked is not a noun, but a verb.

Okay I think. I did something wrong. I'm googling again: gist and code design in Zen. I came across another answer. In short, it doesn't work now. For about two years, when Zen belonged to Yandex, everything worked, but after transfer to VK it stopped working. With Yandex there was no such crap 🙂

I understand that at this moment I am starting to burn. I hold back my anger. Of course there is no backlight, but at least the formatting is preserved. Yes, the code is inconvenient to read, we are used to a more colorful version. Well, I think okay. It's actually not that bad. The code is being read.

I click publish:

And here what was just smoldering like an ember turns into a volcanic eruption, with avalanches of goodness in all directions of the Zen platform 🙂

What date, could it happen that your WYSIWYG editor, who in the tank this abbreviation means what you see is what you get, distorts simply copied text formatting?

Yes, in windows 3.1 more than 30 years ago, in the first versions of word editors there was less pain. The way the text was typed with all the frills and indents, this is how it looked after printing on paper, in rhinestones. What was supposed to happen in 30 years, so that such a banal thing as code subtexting would not be implemented on such a platform? What am I asking you, managers, developers, technical leads and other comrades.

Do we think the world ended in 2012? So it hasn’t come and you don’t have a single reasonable reason why you don’t have such functionality on your resource. There are thousands of programming channels on your resource, with perfect code formatting.

The level of disgust is maximum!

Would you like me to show you a trick? Look carefully, now it will be difficult. There is a website old-games. I am also registered on it. A site for enthusiasts of old hardware, games and their modifications, localization. Well, we like old games.

So at this moment, take a closer look, now it will be right now.

This is a link to forumwhere there is code formatting

The site is not about programming at all, but even it has simple code formatting. You might say it can't be, it's a coincidence. Okay guys, now you will have confirmation.

Very minimalistic site Gamedev.ru

There is also code formatting.

Yes, on the same hub, there is code formatting. It's not difficult. Simply take any open source library with editing and integrate it into the editor. This is how websites have been written for 30 years, you can’t implement it, take js lib, integrate it and don’t torment users. I'm not even talking about the rest of the formatting, color and font of the text.

Please explain to me what happened to all of you, including not only developers, but also project managers, team leads, architects and other people involved in this bad manners? You all participate in the development of Zen every day. You hold daily meetings, close sprints, take tickets, poke at the Gira, go to retro, what happened to you? Why didn’t Yandex implement such a feature first, and then you just dropped the bolt and cut out the possibility of integration with gist. Is this how you substituted imports?

How many developers can there be in Zen? Hundreds? Thousands? Two Vasyans with a backlog for a couple of years? At least that would explain everything. So is it really impossible to create a task for a couple of front-end developers with a code formatting feature, or at least make it so that your WYSIWYG editor really was a WYSIWYG editor.

2024 October, in a couple of months 2025. And you, bloggers and programmers have been tormented for years with formatting, inserting pictures or simply leaving code that is broken in formatting.

Do you know how bloggers get out? They simply post pictures, instead of several hundred bytes of text, they make pictures of several tens of kilobytes, generating entropy.

My goal is not to blame and blame, distributing rays of goodness to everyone. And so that Zen managers would read this article and become concerned about the problem not only of mine, but of thousands of people who not only create and format articles, but also read them. And they want to highlight normal, highlighted and formatted code. And this is not your obscenity.

Thanks, I'm done.
