A shrimp farm with a solar power plant was opened in the Nikolaev region in the form of a QR code

On the shore of the Tiligul estuary near the village of Progressovka, Nikolaev region (Ukraine), an aqua farm for the production of Pacific white-legged shrimp was opened Penaeus vannamei

LLC “Aquaferma Tiligul” is the largest in Europe and the only one in Ukraine. nikvesti.com

According to the manufacturer, the period from catching a shrimp to the moment it reaches the consumer is no more than 12 hours

A solar power plant is installed on the roof of the aqua farm, which is able to provide the production with electricity. Solar panels installed in the form of a QR code, transfers news.liga.net

The total area of the farm premises is 6 thousand square meters. The aqua farm houses hatcheries, a broodstock workshop, containers for raising livestock, a “cold” processing workshop, as well as a water purification system and facilities for waste processing.

Broodstock

Broodstock, or brood fish, are a group of mature individuals used in aquaculture for artificial breeding purposes.

A broodstock can be a population of animals kept in captivity as a source for replenishment or an increase in the number of eggs and fry. They are typically found in ponds or reservoirs where environmental conditions such as photoperiod, temperature and pH are controlled.

In the premises of the hatchery, the Pacific climate of the equatorial region was recreated and special water filtration was used. So, having ideal conditions and the absence of natural enemies, shrimp will be grown in large volumes at a minimum cost. Part of the electricity will come from a solar power plant

The power of the solar power plant is a trade secret

I tried to check with the owner of the company “Merman’s” Vsevolod Kovalchuk and in official account farm solar power plant capacity, type of panels and other equipment, but this turned out to be a “trade secret”.

According to the representatives of “Merman’s”, my contact was transferred to the person in charge, but this person did not take any action to answer my questions.

For the first two years, 75% of the products will be sold domestically. But due to the annual expansion, the percentage of exports will increase. At the time of launch, the enterprise provided new jobs for several dozen Ukrainians (at the end of October 2021 – 20 people – translator’s note), and during 2021 it was planned to expand the staff to 200 people.

In the first year after opening, the aqua farm plans to grow up to 10 tons of shrimp (and by the end of 2022, production capacity should grow to 500 tons of products per year – translator’s note)

The water for the pools will be collected from the Tiligul estuary. It is here as salty as possible and close in composition to the oceanic one.

How will the water be used?

Most farms raise shrimp in artificial open-air reservoirs, or use part of a natural reservoir and feed them with feed additives and antibiotics.

Growing Merman’s shrimp does not take place in open water. Instead, we have created a closed cycle of complete water purification with minimal environmental impact.

First, the nursery pools are filled with natural water, but after that the farm operates in recovered return water, which undergoes mechanical and biological treatment without the use of chemicals.

Project worth 180 million hryvnia (at the time of opening – 6 331 340 million US dollars – translator’s note) designed for 4 years. By the end of 2022, it is planned to carry out four more stages of construction.

Under the project, in addition to the shrimp farm, it is also planned to launch the cultivation of ocean fish, open an educational center for training specialists for aqua farms and an international scientific center.

The production will create 200 jobs, 180 of which will occupy locals… Specialists from the USA will be invited to train new employees.

From the translator

Since I am interested in solar energy (and even run the first in Russia Solar News podcast on solar energy), I honestly tried to contact the representatives of “Merman’s House” and find out more about the power plant on the roof of the farm. But the only thing that I managed to find out in two weeks is that the QR code, which cannot be found in an acceptable quality for recognition in the photos, leads to the company’s website https://mermans.com.ua

The company claims that this is the largest landline QR code and it seems to be true. There are also more, for example, from Belarusian IT specialists on 9 hectares or officially registered in the “Guinness Book of Records” Chinese on 3 hectares… But they are temporary. So the solar power plant has the right to be called one of the interesting objects of solar power.

But there are no less interesting objects. For example, a Chinese solar power plant in the shape of a panda or a “three-letter word” that Good Wood was forced to write with solar panels in 2016 in response to a lack of amendments to the Electricity Law (adopted only at the end of 20119)

If you also have interesting examples of solar power plants, I suggest you post them in the comments.
