Meta* Orion AR glasses

At the Connect 2024 event, they showed off new Orion glasses, which have been in development for 10 years. They are equipped with miniature cameras and sensors that track eye movements, hands and the world around them, collecting information for AI.

The glasses have “the widest field of view in an augmented reality glasses form factor to date”—70°.

The set includes a bracelet and a small pocket processor the size of a phone. Control is carried out by sight, voice and gestures. The bracelet is equipped with electromyography technology – gestures are read from the wrist outside the field of view of cameras and without lighting.

Meta AI, the smart assistant powered by Orion, understands what you see in the physical world and can help you with helpful visualizations. You can open the refrigerator and ask for a recipe based on the ingredients inside. Or video call a friend while setting up your digital family calendar while you wash the dishes.

The glasses are not for sale yet, but only shown. They are going to carefully distribute samples to their employees and “selected external audiences.” But in release They specifically emphasize that this is not a research prototype, but an almost real product.
