3 tips for myself in case I become unemployed again

In the fall of 2022, I wrote a statement and quit my job, which I devoted 4 years to. While looking for a job, I ran into some problems that could have been avoided, if someone taught me, warned me, showed me.

Therefore, now I am writing to myself in the past 3 tips, 3 recommendations that are urgent for implementation, which will help me prepare for dismissal. I hope this letter reaches me)

“Anton, hello!

I share with you some life hacks to develop my career.

Council number 1. Anton, please keep a detailed diary of your personal and career achievements. Record your achievements, if not daily, then at least weekly. Don’t rely on your memory. Don’t try to judge these achievements by their quality, scope, and significance. Just fix it! Essentially, you should always have a ready-made, working, up-to-date resume. And you should always update it.

And remember one more thing: what is obvious to you is not always obvious to others. If it seems to you that your achievement is not an achievement at all, because it was easy to achieve, and it was insignificant, then most likely it just seems to you. What is easy for you may be difficult for others. And for an attentive recruiter, such an achievement can be of paramount importance.

Council number 2. Anton, please don’t forget the great power networking. Make useful connections with colleagues, partners, clients. Go to thematic meetups, conferences, trainings, seminars.

Pay special attention to your clients! If you provide them with services at the highest level, then they will be happy to tell their entire environment what a great specialist you are. And perhaps in this environment there will be a person who is ready to offer you an interesting vacancy in the future. Sometimes word of mouth is the most effective communication channel.

And one more life hack. In 2022, I sat down to disassemble contacts from the phone in the amount of 1678 pieces. And here’s what I realized. If I have never written off a contact on WhatsApp or Telegram, then almost 100% I don’t remember who it is, what connects me with it and why I need it. Well, except for the obvious ones, of course, like Nadia Hairdresser or Vasya Tire Service.

Therefore, when adding a new contact to your phone, make a short note about it: when and where you met, what connects you, like or dislike, place of work and position. It’s minimum.

Council number 3. Anton, please learn English! I’m even ashamed to write this. In 4 years, you would already be able to speak this language at a level no less than C1. The dumbest thing I could do in my life is to give up on learning English.

Perhaps these are the main tips. I hope I don’t have to repeat them to you in 4 years in 2027)”

I understand that for some these tips are obvious, simple, clear and unconditional, but for me at the end of 2022 they became real insights.

Now it’s time to put this knowledge into practice.
